First heard about this place through a positive review from a relative. Came to try it myself and will add it to my list of spots to return to! It’s a got a great environment with plenty of decorations and runs on a touchscreen ordering system. They prepare your food for you really fast. Ordered their daily special burrito and it was super juicy and delicious. This place is super close in proximity to all the great spots in downtown Salt Lake but has no nearby free parking besides City Creek if you wanna do a half a mile walk. Would recommend this place!

If you’re looking for a religious experience when downing a couple of tacos, then Santo Taco (hallowed be thy name) is the place to praise and eat. The birria is on a whole other spiritual plane. You will literally drink whatever you have left. No regrets. They don’t skip on the meat in this glorious taco either. The meat is tender and oozing in flavor. The fish taco is delightful. Didn’t feel fried at all and the snappy cabbage was a textural bonus. You’ll be singing from the hymnal after polishing off these tacos.

Service is either order at the counter or from a pad. Easily done. Shop is clean and salsa bar, like the Spirit, is flowing.

The only downside is that it’s a Pepsi shop. Satan obviously won that battle.

Santo Taco, and I’m paraphrasing Brother Brigham here, is the place.

Excellent tacos. It’s like a taco truck but with indoor seating. These guys make really great and well prepared food. I’ll post a pic of the shrimp tacos. I added the green sauce on top.

We went this past Friday night and honestly had a very disappointing experience. From the moment you walk in, the place looks neglected and dirty. We went to the counter where it clearly says “Order Here,” but no one acknowledged us for about 15 minutes. Eventually someone told us that we had to order ourselves at the kiosk.

The bathrooms were extremely dirty and looked poorly maintained. From the dining area you can also see the kitchen and storage area where they keep the salsas and taco toppings, and everything looked messy, disorganized, and unsanitary.

Considering this location is in downtown, you would expect the place to be more put together, but instead it felt like a run-down taquería.

The worst part was the food. The carne asada tacos had no flavor, the meat was tough, and the tortillas were dry and cold. The al pastor tacos were also bland and disappointing.

Honestly, it seems like they should stop paying TikTok influencers and instead invest that money into improving the restaurant and using better quality ingredients.

Overall, this place was a waste of time and money. It’s even more frustrating when you go somewhere hungry and end up spending money on food that’s this bad.

Best review of this place was on Yelp:

“Their birria taco isn’t merely juicy—it is as though you’ve summoned a beast of flavor from the depths, complete with a dipping consomé that roars “dunk me, mortal!” It drenched my napkin, flooded my senses, and launched me into birria nirvana”

But let’s make an even better review:

“I walked into Santo Taco and immediately felt like I wasn’t supposed to be there—but not in a scary way, more like I’d stumbled into a family reunion where everyone lowkey suspected I was a narc or Justin Bieber impersonator.

The meat was so tender I started whispering apologies to the cow in broken Spanish I learned from Dora the Explorer, I assume the meat was cow, could’ve been dog for all I cared because it was so delicious.

A guy behind the counter looked at me like he knew I’ve never had real birria tacos, and he was right. The al pastor taco had the energy of a soap opera villain…sweet, spicy, dramatic, and possibly dating my wife.

I blacked out halfway through my birria and woke up dunking it in the consommé like it was holy water. Someone’s grandma appeared, offered me a tamale, then disappeared immediately. I left the place smelling like grilled heaven and questioning my heritage.”

A wonderful place to get a great variety of Mexican tacos and burritos.

The prices were very reasonable and the service very friendly.

I got 4 tacos (fish, birria and carnitas (x2). My friend ordered the chicken fries.

The carnitas tacos were my favorite although the fish taco was the most flavorful! The birria was good but keep in mind that it is deep fried, which caused me to pause.

4 tacos were way more than I needed! 3 would have been perfect.

There was an area to get various additions like pico, onions/cilantro, onions, cucumbers, hot and mild sauces and other items.

My friend was rather happy with chicken fries and the portion side although he though the chicken was on the dry side. (Me personally prefer my chicken to be like that).

Santos Tacos has daily specials that should be looked into.

Santos Tacos is highly recommended.

Fast service, and great tacos! They also have some good vegetarian options. We tried several of the meat tacos, and will have to come back to try the fish and vegetarian tacos.

The best Taco shop. The customer satisfaction is truly top-notch — everyone is very welcoming and makes you feel right at home. The tacos are hands down the best in downtown! A special shoutout to Johnny and Armando — their dedication to making sure every customer leaves happy really stands out. Highly recommend!

Great tacos. We tried the quesadillas this time and it was enough for two people to share. My favorite thing is the Birria taco. The salsa bar is nice too. There is no parking lot so you have to park on the street.

It’s a first time visit for me and my wife (plus one kid). I was hopeful that it would be great, but it was just fine.

I got the three taco plate — birria, steak, and al pastor. For me the birria was the best of the options, but my wife pointed out that it tasted a little too much like pot roast. I’d agree. The steak didn’t have a lot of flavor, and the al pastor was good.

I noticed that the carnitas were sold out and I’m guessing that’s one of the best options.

My son got the chicken quesadilla and it was really good — I wish that I had gotten that. It was huge. If you take two kids, one is enough to split.

The chips were awesome and the salsa was good, but the amount they give you isn’t a good ratio — the chips were lonely at the end.

I’m not going to give up on this place. I’m going back and want to try some other things.
