I took my son here for his birthday last September and we were not disappointed! We went early on a Sunday afternoon and were seated immediately. Our waitress was amazing and because it was our first (but definitely not our last) visit, we asked her for recommendations. She recommended the Brussels sprouts appetizer, which was delicious. My son got the Hawaiian Special and it disappeared in record time. I definitely recommend the homemade blue cheese dressing if you like it ordinarily, because it puts the stuff in a bottle to shame. At the front of the restaurant (by the restrooms) are walls filled with photos and the history of the establishment, which I found fascinating. We marked the occasion by grabbing a couple of tee shirts on our way out.

You can’t visit the Crystal Coast without a stop at Morehead City, the Sanitary! It’s a local institution for a reason. The atmosphere is full of history, and we loved looking at the old photos and the view of the boats passing by on the waterfront. The hushpuppies lived up to the hype—sweet, crispy, and addictive. The seafood platter was massive and perfectly fried (not greasy at all). It’s a busy spot, but the service was friendly and efficient. A perfect, classic seafood dinner experience.

Came from Maryland to visit family for my birthday and just wanted some decent seafood. We found this cute lil restaurant on the water where the prices seemed reasonable & affordable . Coming from Maryland my crab cake expectations may be a little high.The crab cake had too much filler for my liking but overall everything else was great!
Shrimp & Grits was amazing as well as the shrimp & crab potato. The best part of the whole experience was our waiter PJ! If you ever come here I would definitely recommend requesting him as your waiter. Very attentive & great personality and so much fun! I will for sure be coming back here when I come intown to visit family again.

Fantastic food and drinks! Fantastic atmosphere!! We ate outside. We watched a boat fuel up.
Twice though the “bartender” either got our drink wrong or was tied up so we got it slow. And when I ordered a second drink, he did not ask my husband if he wanted another beer or ask about deserts. By the time I got my second drink, the meal was done and we decided to go somewhere else for dessert. The owner walked around asking of we were happy but did not introduce herself. The cashier called her mom and told her she left her phone outside again.

30 years ago I would eat here as many times a month I could get to Morehead, no better food anywhere. It’s been 30years I’ve waited. My friends thought it was good but they don’t know it then. I’m sorry to say but I was very disappointed. Even more disappointing was watching my $30 plate hit the trash. I did notice from looking at it and the one bite I took that there were excessive spices present, maybe Mediterranean or Mid Eastern. Each owner has the right to serve their food the way they want to, but I went into a restaurant that looked the same 30 years ago and I guess I expected to get good local food as there was no indication it was different. The locals said I should have ask them first.

Wow, I haven’t been to Sanitary in way too long, but the upgrades to the business are fantastic! Food was over the top, check out these photos. Crabs, mussels, devil egg oysters w/ a jalapeño on top was incredible. LOVE THE NEW MENU!! We created our own main dish, cooked to perfection. Service was really good, friendly staff, professional and an attention to detail. Thank you! We will stop here again soon!

I have been coming here for years. Used to have a 5 star opinion of it. I’ll update again if it changes. Fresh catch on and off shore is always good. The parking has gotten complicated although you can’t change that sometimes with the area booking and changing. They will validate your ticket if you bring it with you too. There was a wait when there was lots of open tables. I believe they are just short staffed which is a challenge. The staff were all very nice as always and Krystal at the bar was awesome! The thing that made me knock a star off was some food quality issues this time and a beer I had got was a new keg while changing beers and it wasn’t flushed or prepped well. So the last beer I paid for was not right and the baked potato was so bad I had to ask for another. I’ll be back and update accordingly. There are some challenges and things to work out but overall a good local spot to eat.

Sanitary is a family favorite. Every time we have come, we have loved it. Great food, service, and Atmosphere. You get a great view of the sound and my Grandpa was super excited to see a Black-Crowned Night Heron perched on the dock. Great experience. Coming back soon!

Went to lunch with my son and we really enjoyed ourselves! The view and fresh salt air was just what we needed! My son ordered the kids tenders and fries. I ordered the shrimp and crab potato with side salad. My son said his food was great and mine was as well. Both came out fresh and hot and in a timely manner. Servers were so friendly! Only disappointment was no crab legs.

Everything here is amazing! The seafood is fresh and delicious. The service is great, we got our food out much faster than we thought we would. It will not disappoint!
Tip: If you park in the paid parking lot, bring your parking stub inside with you and they will validate it so you don’t have to pay for parking!
