I met the owner this time and she sent me out the door with one of her mango drinks and she gets it straight from Egypt…. And let me tell you something OM WOW!!!
If you have not been to the Sandwich King, stop what you’re doing and RUN do not walk & get there! The food is so good!!! Especially in a world where Most of the time when you go out to eat You say to yourself “Why am I paying money for this?” This is money well spent on food. The owner is so kind and wonderful and all of the staff is so friendly and helpful.
The food was seriously off. The Mac Attack burger had dry, unpleasant cheese, and the meat looked like it had been sitting out for days—it even smelled bad. The mac & cheese shawarma looked like it had been barely warmed up before being served and tasted just as bad as it looked. Almost everything seemed like it had been sitting around for a while rather than freshly prepared. Honestly, it was totally disgusting and not worth your time.
The flavors were bland, with nothing standing out except for excessive salt. I’ve had much better Philly cheesesteaks at Frank & Andrea’s, so I really don’t understand the hype here.
The service and atmosphere didn’t help. When I walked in and greeted the staff, the lady barely acknowledged me and asked what I wanted with a straight face. We waited around 10 minutes for our food, and when we asked for sauce, we got just one without any interaction. The dessert was overpriced too—seven dollars for a small Biscoff cake, and it wasn’t even impressive.
Both staff members we interacted with seemed to have attitude. The experience felt unwelcoming and disappointing, especially since I was really looking forward to trying Sandwich King after so long.
If you’re in the mood for burgers or shawarma, I’d recommend checking out the new burger joint in Edina or Frank & Andrea’s instead. Overall, it was the worst place I’ve ate at.
The meat and onions are very well-seasoned with a good blend of spices. Not so spicy that you think “Wow, it’s a lot.” Just enough that you notice it. Very nice. The fries have that nice bubbly exterior that tell you that they’re made with care and not just an afterthought to the sandwich. The fry sauce was also good.
Staff was very friendly as well.
This is a nice hidden gem in Mounds View and I’ll be back for more soon.
The taste is fresh and no grizzly chicken pieces.
Its very saucey so eating with utensils wasn’t a big issue.
When reheating the food the next day, it still kept its flavor.
Overall great workers, fresh food, and definitely one of my top restaurants in Minnesota.
The food was amazing. The restaurant is very clean and thoughtfully arranged for the small space.
There are several things that I would have benefited from knowing before attending the restaurant, I am happy to share them with you.
The interior of the restaurant is quite small there is seating, but only for about 18 people maximum. Tables are designed for two people each.
There is a menu up on the wall, and small handheld menus, but neither of those entail the entire menu available. There is also a dessert case a drink menu on the counter, and a small additional Egyptian food menu on the case as well. All the choices that I write about available online are available there but all of them are not collected into a single menu in the store.
Beyond those things, I found the place to be lovely. The food was wonderful, the location was not terribly loud, there was enough room for a line to form and people to sit at the tables. There were two genderless restrooms, both clean and one wheelchair accessible.
The food came quickly end was generously proportioned for the cost.
I absolutely recommend the gyrorito, it was huge, tasty, and the rice was amazing. I can also recommend the gyro fries quite highly. They’re fries in general were lovely as they are very crispy due to being battered.
The Dubai milkshake is absolutely everything it’s cracked up to be. I was surprised how much I liked it, and I expected to like it.
Staff was polite and helpful.
I will definitely visit again.
