Sandbar at Newport Pier Sunny Isles Beach Guide
Reviews
The service was friendly, and the breeze over the water makes it so much cooler even on a hot day. It’s a great place to relax after a walk on the beach. Pro tip: Arrive just before sunset to catch the amazing colors over the skyline
We originally came to check out the boardwalk, which was fun. There are benches along the walk which was nice to sit down and enjoy the view. We were also able to watch a few people catch some fish.
While there, we decided to grab lunch and were pleasantly surprised. The fish tacos were delicious, only three, but each one was loaded with meat and topped with a flavorful sauce. The cheeseburger was pretty standard, but the fries were excellent. The service was a little slow, but the staff was friendly, so that helped.
After lunch, we walked down to the public beach for a quick swim. The water was clear and refreshing. It was a bit crowded due to nearby hotels, but still a great experience overall!
EDIT April 2024:
We recently paid another visit to Sandbar at Newport Pier in Sunny Isles Beach, a place we make a point to visit at least once every year. The breathtaking ocean view, the refreshing ocean breeze, the sight of people swimming, and the waterfront high rises all contribute to the charm of this place. The food and spirits further enhance the overall experience.
However, this time around, there were a few disappointments. Upon our arrival, we had to wait for several minutes to be seated by the host who was not there. Due to the lengthy wait, we decided to find a spot on the terrace ourselves, as most of the tables were available around noon. When we tried to order lunch, the server informed us that we needed to see the host first. I found this quite odd because we were still seated, but complied nonetheless. The server even told another customer, who had already ordered a beer from a different server, that he couldn’t sit at the table because he hadn’t seen the host first. This seemed rather strange, especially considering the host was not readily available.
After resolving this “host issue”, we were finally able to place our order. Another disappointment was the downsized menu, which was now limited to a single page. I ordered coconut shrimp, guacamole, calamari, and a lobster roll to share with my wife. Except coconut shrimp which was fried a lot, others were good. In previous years, the menu offered a wider variety of delectable dishes, but this year it felt limited. I noticed that other tables were only ordering a starter and beer. In conclusion, I was not pleased with the new regulations and the limited menu, which will likely influence my decision to return to this restaurant.
The service was great, the atmosphere was the best, but the food and cocktails were 0/10.
We ordered a plate to share that had fried yucca, shrimp, octopus, fish sticks and some sauces. The best thing about the dish was the sauces .
The cocktails (they were wine base) were not delicious at all.
They all ordered sushi and really enjoyed it. We don’t really like sushi so we decided to share the chicken sandwich. It was good but not great, the sauce that comes with it was delicious but spicy so keep that in mind. The portion of fries was quite small even for one person so that was a little disappointing. The bacon was soggy and not crispy
Also they only had one waitress for the whole outside area on a very busy day so it was almost impossible to get our drinks refilled and ask for anything else we needed. She was great though, but obviously we didn’t get many things we asked for on time.
We may give this place another try probably on a not-so-busy day next time
