If you are looking for a great atmosphere and fantastic people, look no further. First time stopping in and they treat you like family! My wife and I were craving tacos and saw this place pop up on Google so we decided to check it out. The directions are a little off because the restaurant is on the side of the building. Its a medium small atmosphere with bar seating and a couple tables for a bit larger parties.
The staff greeted us with open arms and even the owner introduced himself. They took our drink orders right away and gave us the quick and easy rundown of the ordering process for building some absolutely delicious tacos. We placed or orders and within about 10-15 minutes dinner was served. They check to make sure your good and even have a bit of a conversation with you if you choose.
The art is all done by the owner and it’s a really cool perspective on stuff so I made sure to pick one up.
Really enjoyed the visit and looking forward to stopping in again and trying to bring some friends.
Thanks for making our date night that much better you all are great!

We could eat outside under the sun it was very pleasant. The only thing is that the price adds up quickly for eating tacos. Also 2.25 for a super small coleslaw salad is a lot. But we enjoyed our quiet lunch !

Such an awesome spot! The atmosphere is fun and welcoming, the food is delicious (the tacos were amazing), and the drinks were on point. CA and the crew made the experience even better with their friendly, attentive, and engaging service. It really feels like a true Norfolk/VB local experience. Perfect for visitors or locals alike — and don’t forget to check out the artwork and buy a piece to take the experience home with you! Highly recommend if you’re looking for great food, great people, and a unique vibe!

Sanctuary isn’t just a taco bar it’s Norfolk’s flavor playground! One bite of their chicken bbq and beef tacos and you’ll understand why locals call it a hidden gem. Between the eclectic art on the walls and the art in their plates, this place proves that tacos can be both delicious and downright inspiring. Come hungry, leave happy, and maybe even with a painting under your arm. Fantastic tacos, cool attentive staff and interesting atmosphere!

While the tacos were tasty, we ordered soft tacos, but yet it came as half crispy tacos. ‍♂️ why not offer a corn tortilla. Had I know they were gonna toast my flour tortilla which drys out the tortilla where it’s not soft anymore , which is truly not Hispanic , I would of ordered hard tacos ‍♂️I thought that place was gonna be good. Service and staff were great, atmosphere pretty cool. But with five dollars a taco I should be getting an extra extraordinary taco not just a Taco Bell taco which probably would’ve been better than this. I will most likely not go back to this place. I don’t know how it got a 4.7 rating. maybe the owners pay people to give good ratings ‍♂️ 57 dollars for some hard to eat tacos.

This place is great. Not your normal taco bar. The owner was fantastic. Full of personality and offered great service. He is quite the character and artist. If you’re looking for something boring, this ain’t it.

This place is awesome. Food was fantastic. Had pulled pork, shrimp, and bbq chicken tacos and along with the sauces all 3 were excellent. Margarita was off the charts. The atmosphere and artwork is incredible. We had the pleasure to meet the owner/artist and left with full tummies and an amazing print of our favorite piece. Can’t wait to come back.

This is such a cool artsy spot. Was very impressed with the decor and the friendly bartender Ko. Great drinks, great American style tacos. Art for sale which is extra fun, I love this spot. Cannot wait to be back. Thank you Christian and Ko.

The Food: I had the chance to try the bean tacos which are fantastic! Add some chile salsa, sour cream, and lettuce wow. In the best way possible this style of American taco reminds me of Taco Bell (which everyone loves). The Sanctuary shell is soft shell layer of cheese and hard shell, to die for. The ability to choose your own protein and custom toppings is what makes this place so fun, I didn’t have the chance to try the shrimp (they’re out) but imagine shrimp tacos topped with sour cream and coleslaw! I cannot wait to be back. Everything fresh, fast, American style, but with actual seasoning! Will update review once I try everything on the menu! Lovely concept, jealous I didn’t think of it first.

Update: Came back for more! The ground beef tacos are great, and our bartender greater. I hope she forgives me I forgot her name, but she was there Saturday April 19th. Great spot always a lovely vibe. Wish they’re open later and more days.

An A+ for atmosphere, food, and service. I did a Google search and saw $4.00 tacos and thought hey, well, give it a go. It was worth the stop and a return visit. The inside is small, with more bar seating and outdoor seating. It’s a natural vibe, I must say. Artwork is something to see. The drink menu has cute names. Now, let me get into the tacos. It is freshly made and worth the wait. I had black bean tacos and shrimp—the black tastes newly made, with no can, toppings, and fresh cuts. And the local hot sauce is the best combination to top it off.
Shrimp is only on Wednesday and Thursday after 6 pm.
