Honestly, this sushi is better than most places I’ve tried in Eugene. The fish is fresh, the rice is done right, and everything tastes clean and well balanced. No need to drive far into the city when you can get great sushi right here in Cottage Grove. Definitely worth coming back.

This restaurant has gone through some recent staffing changes. If you haven’t eaten there recently I highly recommend you try it. The service and food today was very good. The California rolls and Tempura platter were made to order and delicious. Prices are reasonable and atmosphere is simple, clean and relaxed. Give it a try!

Tried this restaurant for the first time, we ordered pick up and the staff was extremely polite and friendly. We wanted to try a few things and ordered the cream cheese spring rolls (essentially simplified crab rangoons), calamari, teriyaki chicken, and a few sushi rolls.

The best was definitely the cream cheese spring rolls which were exactly as you’d expect, while the calamari was tasty but a bit overcooked and chewy.

The bad portion of this meal comes down to the teriyaki chicken which was extremely dry and the teriyaki sauce tasted off, and the sushi was largely bland and generally sub-par.

All of this experience combined with the $60+ price means this definitely will not be a place we will be going back to.

Food comes out quick people are friendly. And it all tastes good. My personal favorite of any sushi restaurant is California rolls, tempura and miso soup. Just the basic. And this place had it very nicely done, my daughter got the spicy tuna roll and she said she really liked it..

Would I come back absolutely? The prices are okay for a sushi restaurant, and the food is good service is happy.

I used to really enjoy San Sushi and was a regular when the previous owners were running it. Unfortunately, since the new owners took over about a year ago, the experience has declined significantly—and consistently.

I’ve been back roughly five times since the ownership change, hoping things would improve. Instead, each visit has been worse.

The atmosphere is completely off. They play very loud, inappropriate music, ranging from rap to rock. This is supposed to be a Japanese sushi restaurant, and the music choice is jarring and completely out of place.

The customer service is poor. On my most recent visit, the restaurant was nearly empty—only one other table with two people. We were seated immediately, yet our server didn’t return for almost 15 minutes. When I asked for a couple of very simple substitutions, I was told flatly that no substitutions are allowed, which felt unnecessarily rigid and dismissive.

The food itself is adequate at best, certainly not worth overlooking the service and atmosphere issues.

What finally pushed this to a one-star review was the lack of basic hygiene. While waiting to use the restroom, I observed our server exit the bathroom immediately after flushing—without washing his hands—and return to serving tables. That is unacceptable.

This is especially disappointing because Cottage Grove could really benefit from a good sushi spot. San Sushi used to fill that role well, but unfortunately, it no longer does. I genuinely hope they take this feedback seriously, because as it stands, I can’t recommend this place anymore.

Friendly staff was helpful making sure I got what I wanted. Food was fresh and delicious. The teriyaki chicken & rice with veggies was delicious. I also had 1 sushi roll. I can’t wait to go back and try more!!! So tasty! I’m thankful they opened in Cottage Grove!

I love that we have a sushi place here in town and I try to frequent it as often as I can. I wish it was kept colder inside during the summer, tho, warm sushi is not my favorite sushi…
But it’s good, I love the art, the staff is friendly and the prices are reasonable!

Three friends and I have had occasional lunches at San Sushi over the time it has been in business. This past visit we had a very different and negative experience. Two of the ladies said that famiiar sushi rolls they had ordered before that according to the menu were supposed to contain shrimp had few or no shrimp. However, our main probem was that each person’s order came out at a separate time with a 15- minute interval between each delivery. While we love a two-hour lunch for visiting, the fact that each of us had to eat separately was unacceptable. Don’t know if it was just a bad day for the sushi maker or this is the new norm, but we will not be going back any time soon.
