San Miguel Bakery offers the best tamales in town—I’m quite the tamale snob, and their tamales truly stand out. The food is consistently delicious; in fact, my friend from Monterey County always insists on visiting when she’s in town and takes a bunch home. I also tried the chorizo burrito for the first time today, and it did not disappoint. The staff is friendly, and I’m looking forward to trying their cakes next.

Let me tell you about this place, because if you’ve never been, y’all are missing out! Everything is made in-house and the portions are beyond generous. I got two guava empanadas and a huge thing of jamaica for less than $10. The empanadas are literally larger than my hand (See photo). Same goes for the agua fresca, filled to the brim with minimal ice. To top it off, the person running it was so friendly and nice!

Tasted the tamales they were good. They have different types of bread. The also have champurado which is a drink in made of chocolate and corn, the combo works. Also they have corn tamales which are my faves but they sell out early.

I ordered a traditional Mexican Rosca at 3:00 pm and was told that my order would be ready by 5:00 pm. I showed up at the store at 6 pm to pick up my order but they said my order was no where to be found. Half an hour later they still had no idea what had happened to the order and so they said I would have to wait another half hour for them to get my order together. Not very pleased with their customer service either.

Wonderful little bakery. The staff is so helpful and patient answering questions about the different types of breads. I ordered the Champurrado, a type of Mexican hot choclate. It was so good! Make a wonderful thick mocha!
