Being from Toledo, but having lived in Southern California for a number of years, I am very cognizant of “authentic” Mexican food. San Marcos became the Standard for me for Mexican food in the Toledo area and beyond. I found their food to have been the best. But I have to continue to be honest. Though I enjoyed the food and margaritas, I repeatedly began having issues with the customer service and stopped eating there despite feeling that their food was the best in town. Repeated issues of disappointment . I’ve since moved away from Toledo, but I still search for my favorite Mexican food dishes and hold them to the taste standard of San Marcos. Today I am in town for the holidays and decide to try them again. My server tonight was genuinely amazing. He was welcoming and attentive. The food and margarita was just as I remembered them… delicious!! I’ve seen on social media quite a bit of backlash about how certain customers (like myself) are treated by staff here. It is my hope that what I experienced tonight is the norm for all of their customers.

Being that it was Valentine’s Day, every place was packed. We took a chance that San Marcos wouldn’t be as busy because it was getting later in the evening. We were greeted and sat immediately. The waiter was at our table in under 5 minutes. We both ordered from the ala carte portion of the menu because neither of us were that hungry. I had a carne asada enchilada and an al pastor (spicy pork with onions & pineapple) enchilada. Both were very very good. My partner ordered the #7 perfect combo of one enchilada (beef), one burrito (beef) and one tamale (pork). She said that they were all very good. She thoroughly enjoyed the chips and salsa while waiting. She also took several pictures of the decor because this was her first time eating here. As always the food and service were top notch. We spent several minutes browsing in their store after dinner. We will be back when we are more hungry so we can enjoy more of their great food. Unfortunately, I forgot to take any pictures of our plates.

We went there for a late Christmas lunch with my siblings. Very good food and usually I don’t go out for Mexican food because some places I’m like where’s the spices?! Wonderful atmosphere and our weather was very good. Everyone’s food came out at the timely manner. There was six of us. Everyone’s food was delicious. They said mine was very good. I got the barbacoa with rice and beans, corn tortillas. And yes everything was flavorful and delicious and most definitely will go back.

I love San Marcos street tacos but if I’m being honest the location that was on Reynolds did it best. I don’t know why but it just is. I would say the chips and salsa are always yummy. Also I wish it was a little cheaper our order for tacos added up to $80+ and of course we couldn’t finish them clearly our appetites were to big for our stomach.

San Marcos in Toledo: My Forever Go-To – and Here’s Why

Okay, buckle up—I’m about to get real gushy.

I’ve been rollin’ through to San Marcos for years—before I had my little people, carrying them, after those wild family days. No matter if it’s me alone or the whole crew, this place always hits. The flavors are so homey, so right, it’s like being wrapped in a warm tortilla hug with every bite.

But y’all… the last visit? It was next-level. The food was different—in a glorious, jaw-dropping way. I can’t even explain the tweaks they made, but the seasonings? Elevated. The dishes had a freshness, a sort of sparkle that made me second-guess.. is it new? Is it just me glowin’ from the fitness grind? No—they did that. They leveled up. And I’m here for it.

Beyond that holy-moly taste: the vibes and service are always on point. Every time we walk in, we’re greeted by friendly servers—guys, girls, people who just get hospitality. I’ve never encountered bad service. It’s like they know exactly what I need before I even say it.

Why everyone should give San Marcos their heart (and tummy) This spot is the real deal—no gimmicks, just authentic Mexican staples that taste like home. The portions are huge without breaking the bank, so you leave full, happy, and proud of your wallet. The vibe is unique too, tucked inside a Mexican market where you stumble right into flavor town. And let’s talk tacos.. street-style with cilantro and onions, barbacoa, burritos… their taco game is strong, and fans can’t stop talking about it… On top of all that, the service is consistently stellar, even when it’s busy.. they always roll with a smile.

If you are looking for bland American style Mexican food go elsewhere… this place knocks it out of the park with authentic Mexican food. I can say I enjoyed it more when it was a simple lunch counter, but time marched on and the place has grown up.

Very cool market. Haven’t tried the restaurant but everything you could want or need for making Mexican style food in Ohio. Such a wonderful vibe that really takes me to the markets I’m used to growing up in San Diego so close to the border. Loved the art in the restaurant too. Highly recommend checking this place out!

This place is amazing. I highly recommend coming here. The wall art is beautiful and the food is more then amazing. I come for lunch and the margaritas are super good. U highly recommend trying the traditional pork tacos!! The guacamole is super fresh. The service is superb. I can’t wait to come in the summer to sit outside on the patio. I like that they have a Latino grocery store attached to it with fresh produce and home made bakery iteams. it has alot to choose from with a meat deli in the back and it has great prices.

Whoever that male server is with the fake curly hair is TERRIBLE at his job. He sat us got us drinks and disappeared, we were waiting for over 30 minutes to get our order taken before we decided to leave, the restaurant was more than half empty when we were there too. Would not recommend.
