San Marcos is hands-down the best spot for authentic Mexican food in Montague! The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the staff goes out of their way to make you feel at home. The food is fresh, flavorful, and served hot—every dish we’ve tried has been absolutely delicious. Portion sizes are generous, and you can taste the care that goes into every meal. Whether you’re stopping in for tacos, fajitas, or one of their amazing specialties, you won’t be disappointed. A true gem in our community—we’ll definitely be back again and again!

Stopped there one evening for dinner. It wasn’t too crowded so we got seated right away. The usual chips and salsa were served but I noticed Salsa was on a salty side. I orders fajita quesadilla for my entree. Generous portion, reasonable price, and tasted decent, also a bit too salty, but not too bad. If you like spicy hot flavor, ask for their house hot salsa. Service wasn’t bad but I had to call our waiter a couple times to refill water. Overall it was a decent dinner experience. Perhaps next time I will try their margaritas.

TLDR: a nice surprise in the otherwise lackluster land of Mexican food in Whitehall! This was the first time I’d been here and everything was great- the atmosphere, the service, the food, the horchata! Nommm!
We got Chips and salsa with queso dip which was pretty good. Standard Mexican restaurant appetizer.
We ordered Horchata and …a beer- I didn’t order it so I don’t remember what our friend ordered…but the horchata was good!

TACOS DE CHORIZO
Three corn or flour tacos stuffed with our delicious chorizo sausage.
Served with rice, beans and salad. -I was told this was really good. Flavors were there, spice level was good, texture was great.
TACOS DE PESCADO
Three corn or flour tacos stuffed with fish. Served with rice, beans, lettuce, tomatoes, avocado, and onions. – I had these and they were very tasty!!! They also put the onion on the side for me which I appreciate because I like onion but not a ton of it lol!
CAMARON SUPREMO
A tantalizing dish of shrimp and onions simmered in a creamy white mushroom sauce. Served with rice, beans and three flour tortillas.- our friend really enjoyed this dish.
We will return if we are in the area!

I give it a 4 based on a couple things, the beef tips were great and the place was good with friendly staff, clean bathrooms(with questionable positions of their hand towels) and speed. The food in general was not something I really enjoyed. The major thing for me was lack of seasoning. Salsa was bland, cheese sauce was mediocre, beans and ground beef were flavorless, shredded chicken was alright. My cheese enchilada was not melted and there was more lettuce then anything else on the plate. Enchilada sauce was similar to ketchup but had an ok flavor, not what I was expecting. I did enjoy the beef tips. Id try the place again to see other items.

Oh my full belly!! Enjoyed the warm.chips and salsa while sipping a spicy margarita. I was not in a hurry so the waiter said to let him know when I was ready. I ordered the San Marcos fajitas. Shrimp, scallops, crab, zucchini, bacon and a sliver of pepper. Next time will ask for more pepper. I could not believe the amount of seafood I got!!! Brought more than half home with me 🙂

Excellent food & generous portions at a reasonable price. Service is friendly & efficient. The atmosphere is warm with decorations for each holiday and chic year round decor that’s hand painted even in the bathrooms.

A great Mexican place tucked into Whitehall. The food is delicious, especially the fajitas, which have plenty of spice and flavor. The tacos are filled nicely, and the burritos large and excellent. The cheese sauce they also give you with certain dishes is also very good and if you get a bowl of it with your dish, expect others to be asking to use it on theirs!
The margaritas they have are very good, and a decent price if you get a pitcher, which coins with little boot glasses that are great and I want to get a set for myself.
In addition, their lunch specials are priced fairly affordable, and it has become a favorite of my coworkers to come here for lunch on any day of the week.
If you are in the Whitehall area, definitely consider stopping here!

Went twice in one week. The first time I ordered steak tacos and got some kind of ground meat, it was flavored with something very salty… have them another chance a few days later. Ordered a steak burrito for 14.00, it was so small, about the size of a brat. The salsa that came with the cops was super runny, like water had been added. Ordered queso dip for the chips, that too was liquid. I used to live this place, not happy at all now. We were there when they first opened and there was lots of dirt, dust and small food pieces under the booths. I took pictures because I couldn’t believe it.

This place is excellent. The staff was wonderful and the food was delicious. We had been there a couple of years ago we our whole family and had the same experience. I am not sure why we waited so long to come back. We will certainly be back sooner this time. Both out waited 6 and the hostsc did a great job getting people seated and served efficiently.
The menu offers a wide selection. We both had enchiladas. Mine were chicken with a green sauce.
