Make the climb! San Francisco Street Restaurant awaits. A nice mixture of artisanal sandwiches, salmon and steak entre’s, New Mexican food and good Margaritas! I like the open kitchen concept, those cooks work hard and servers try to keep up!
My steak was a little tough, it came with dry mashed potatoes and a roasted palano pepper on top with an onion ring on top of that! I wish the pablano was a green chile, yum!
The Margarita was sufficiently strong, which is a big plus in most restaurants, but it was a silver coin special!
My wife’s chicken sandwich was fantastic, surrounded by more fries than we could eat.
Prices were great, considering the location. They don’t take reservations unless you have a party of 6 or more. We arrived at 6:15 and we’re ushered quickly to a table, but as we ate open tables became scarce, plan accordingly!

The San Francisco Street Bar & Grill opened its doors in April of 1985. It was a quiet time in Santa Fe, a depression in the commercial and real estate markets. Downtown had a few lunch spots that closed early and upscale restaurants frequented on special occasions. Where was the place for the common man (or woman) that served continuously through the day and remained open late?
The original restaurant was located at 114 San Francisco Street, below street level. Our success was immediate and continued to boom through the late eighties. Casual atmosphere, full bar, efficient service, and hamburgers, grilled sandwiches, creative salads & soups.
The restaurant moved in 2003 to the current location which has large windows overlooking historic San Francisco St. and Don Gaspar provide abundant natural lighting. The wide open dining room originally designed as an art space, now attractively exhibits paintings and sculptures that illustrate Santa Fe’s position as the third largest art market in the United States. The copper paneled plate-up area and raw copper heat lamps are integral design elements that continue with copper panels at the bar and hand tooled copper chandeliers by Roberto Gallegos over the entrance stairwell.
The San Francisco St. Bar & Grill is a tradition not to be missed.

Craft Cocktails. Local Beer. Good Eats. Great People.

Excellent sevice from Eric, thank you!! Just forgot about us for desert and cofee. Calamari perfectly cooked, soft not chewy. Cesar salad the way is supposed to be, excellent dressing, parmersan chesse shaved and powder. Rigatone al camineto, pasta perfect, al dente, sauce delicios, Italian sausage wonderful. NY steak a little over cooked. We ordered medium-rare it was medium, delicious flavor, vegetables perfect. Very good potato wedges.

My wife and I had lunch here while visiting Santa Fe Plaza. The red chille hummus was delicious. My wife had the grilled shrimp an avocado salad & thought the shrimp was grilled to perfection & that the salad was very fresh. I really enjoyed my Chimayo Chicken Sandwich. If I could I would eat the sandwich every day.

Great place to eat in downtown Santa Fe! They have an expansive menu including separate lunch/dinner menus and a rotating special, and everything we’ve tried has been fantastic. Rotisserie chicken (specifically the lemon) is delicious, the Mediterranean salad (pictured) was great and filling, the pasta dishes we’ve tried are okay/good, but man the chicken fried steak is fantastic. The chicken sandwich was also great according to my MIL and another friend, and the desserts we’ve sampled (two varieties of chocolate cake) are DELICIOUS. this place isn’t the cheapest ($18-30 with most dishes priced at $21) but it feels upscale and nice so I’ll bring friends/family from out of town here, then walk them around historic Santa Fe when we finish eating. Overall, very kind staff with a nice atmosphere and great food! We’ll be back!

So generic and generally bad food and drinks. Stale chips, cheese dip you can’t eat, shrimp that tastes like the freezer. We were very disappointed. Go to the Thunderbird instead.

Stumbled upon this spot since the neighboring restaurant had a 2 hour wait, I’m so glad they did, because we loved it! Bartender waited on us in the section behind the bar, even though he had a full bar. Food was fantastic and service was superb. We’ll definitely be back!

First ever trip to Santa Fe, first ever dining experience. Such an awful experience that we ate in the rest of the trip. One and done was more than enough. After the long walk up the flight of stairs we descended on the host station to check out the menus. Apparently, this was frowned upon as we were shamed by the host for reaching our own menus. We sat down defeated and guilty. The waitress came over and flatly asked us for an order. She was ill prepared, and painfully annoyed at our dietary restrictions questions so much that we almost left right then. Any question or request was met with a blank, lifeless, hollow stare. It was uncomfortable. All of it. We ordered as quickly as possible so we could speed up this whole encounter.

Service was dismal besides the flatness. We had to ask her for water several times, which she proceeded to pour all over the 4 glasses, leaving us to clean it up with our napkins.

“Is that your food?!” my daughter blurted out when it finally arrived. Apparently it had been sitting under the heat lamp for an unsavory amount of time. Lovely.

Let me start out by saying I have never in my life eaten New Mexican food. I was trying to remain authentic and ordered the chicken enchiladas to do so. Big mistake. Flavorless, dry chicken wrapped in fire spice. The beans were runny, flavorless slop. The rice, was there. The melted cheese was the best part. Nice.

The French dip was the fattest cut they had. The bread was old and dry on the corners. The dipping sauce couldn’t save this meal.

The highlight of the entire experience was the dipped fries. I’m not sure if they had dairy or not. I didn’t feel like we were allowed to ask.

We encountered a couple on the street who were considering going into the restaurant upon us leaving. We told them about our experience. Apparently flavorless fire is the New Mexico signature?! Should have gone to La Fonda. At least it’s a classic.

We ducked into San Francisco Bar and Grill for a quick snack mid-afternoon this week… so glad we did! Morgan was our waitress, she did a great job! Thanks Morgan! We had a couple of cocktails and ordered one of the daily special, a lightly fried trout with green rice and brussels sprouts. All so good. The fish was fresh, the batter thin and light. The brussels were sautéed then baked, ended up a bit soggy. Still tasted good though! The rice was, well, rice… tasty but not great. All in all, a good meal in the middle of the afternoon. We’d go back! Recommend San Francisco Bar and Grill.

Thank You San Francisco Street Bar & Grill for an absolutely wonderful Thanksgiving Day meal!

San Francisco Street Bar & Grill was closed to the public Thanksgiving Day 2025 but they did offer a complete Thanksgiving meal for pick up ( see attached photo of offering ). Reserving the meal over the telephone was simple.

The order was fulfilled as promised and was very delicious. The turkey cooked to perfection and the stuffing was truly amazing. While those were my favorites all food was extremely wonderful and thoughtfully packaged to go with ease. The included pumpkin pie was from ‘Chocolate Maven’. Loading Zone right on Don Gaspar by front door on corner of San Francisco St and Don Gaspar.

I hadn’t been to San Francisco Street Bar & Grill since it relocated once again near it’s original location downtown. The food was delivered hot. As I waited for chef, owner, and staff to pack up the order – I had a nice look around. The entire restaurant was immaculate and decorated for the holiday season. The bar was organized and very clean. They had placards about describing services for Christmas parties and holiday reservations. Art displayed on the walls available for sale and tastefully done.

I know a first class operation when I see one. San Francisco Street Bar & Grill is first class all around.

I want Thanksgiving dinner from San Francisco Street Bar & Grill to be a new tradition. I hope they continue to offer this service.

What a BREEZE!

(ps – after serving and sitting on stove top for nine hours, turkey was just as juicy and moist as as it was when entering the home! SO GOOD! )

THANK YOU SAN FRANCISCO STREET BAR & GRILL.
