I heard about San Alejo through Cocineros, another favorite of mine. Everything about this Salvadoran spot was excellent.

The baleadas were a highlight and so good that I forgot to take a picture. We also ordered the yuca and chicharron, which was delicious, and the Parrillada San Alejo, which came with sides. The beans were so flavorful, and the plantains might be the best I’ve had.

The service was friendly and helpful throughout our meal, making the whole experience even better.

We ordered three pupusas, ayote, loroco, and mixto. They were really well cooked and accompanied with a crisp curtido and a tomato salsa. A side of rice that was light and flavorful. They had a refreshing horchata, just the right amount of sweetened with milky texture. Mario was a wonderful server and host.

Very excited about San Alejo coming to Takoma Park. A cozy spot for familiar flavors of El Salvador. With dishes honoring while pushing our culinary traditions forward. The chicharron that comes with the yuca is some of the best I’ve had – tender and fried to perfection! Much success to the staff and the San Alejo family!

Pupusas revueltas just like mi abuelita used to make – I was delighted! I haven’t been back to DC for many years and this wonderful little family-owned place was a happy surprise. The owner was so friendly and kind, asking me about my grandma and sharing details of how opening the 2nd location has been going for them. Such smiles, such lovely folks – I can’t wait to go back on my next visit and try their chicharrones.

This is the second location of San Alejo over New Hampshire Ave Takoma Park, MD. I absolutely love the food. I recommend the Parrillada, carne deshilada, pupusas, and don’t forget the tamales . I think this location is smaller, but more beauty and cozy. I love the decor and style. I like to see salvadorean concepts that are out of the ordinary. Plenty free parking, excellent customer service.

The customer service here is RUDE and disrespectful. They have hung up on me and refuse to answer when I call back to discuss my order and the menu items. I asked for a manager and was hung up on a 2nd time.

My 1st photo shows my attempts to call
& the 2nd photo shows an advertisement that they refused to discuss with me.

I recommend going to Sardi or Cocineros for better food and service.
