For starters, our waiter was absolutely the sweetest guy and I generally feel like he made the experience worth it for me personally. The food was actually good, the only thing I ordered that I did not care for was the noodles other than that my rice and steak were really great. The main thing that I had a hard time with was just the atmosphere. It is very open, like uncomfortably open if that makes any sense at all, and if it doesn’t then you will have to walk in to see what I am referring to. The walls are just blank or filled with random things that just doesn’t make sense. They played current pop music which was odd to me for a authentic Japanese restaurant. All in all I feel like a lot could be done to make it more of a comfortable feel. The amount of money we spent, I’d just rather drive the 30 minutes to Watamis in Sikeston or Fujis in Poplar Bluff just simply due to the type of atmosphere they offer, but this is only my personal opinion.

We got the Sushi for 2 take out and the staff we dealt with were pleasant. The food is good but it was like it was a few days old. We will be going back often as it’s in a great location for what’s available in the area. The restroom area smelled badly but it looked like they are trying to fix it. It’s a cold atmosphere but lots of seating.

Terrible! Food overcooked. We told server about it, and there were no corrections, apologies, or anything offered. Waitress was young and inexperienced so it should have been manager to step up. He didn’t!

We then had to pay an added gratuity for the bad food and bad service before we could leave. Terrible!!!

Wish could rate a zero. Don’t waste your time or money going here. You’ll regret it!

2024 Edit – apparently Samurai X has sold already and is now OkiE Japanese Fusion. Will have to try it again, but it still shows up under this listing.

The below is the original review, not with the new company:

Sushi was all right. Ordered a sushi deluxe which came with 9 nigiri (chef choice) and a California roll, decently priced at $20. Als ordered a spider crab roll, average price at $13.

I don’t mind a bit of showgimmick. However, the tower display for the spider crab rolls made it hard to eat. Pulled a roll off that stuck to another one and ended up tearing. There was a lot of extra stuff on the platter that personally didn’t think necessary but it wasn’t hurting anything. But it was a lot: carrots, cucumbers, avocado, wakame, imitation crab, and what I assume was like a sirracha cocktail sauce decorating the plate.

The individual rolls themselves were very large pieces. I have a really big mouth (really) but even I struggled eating a few pieces in one bite. At least 3 or 4 rolls I had to cut or bite in half. Not a fan. The nigiri quality was average. The pieces of fish were pretty large in proportion to the rice, inconsistent shapes and sizes, and several of the pieces also took 2 bites. I guess basically they weren’t neat.

The other guest ordered some fried rice which unfortunately was a bit overdone and bland.

I read another review that commented on the ambience and going to definitely agree. It’s almost uncomfortably open, and not a lot going on in that space.

I really want this place to work out as it’s a great location. Sikeston is the next closest place and having a local place is a dream. I’ll give it another try later as I know It’s a new place.

Service was decent. Overall portion value was decent (I left full). Quality of nigiri was average. Quality of rolls (flavor) was decent. Atmosphere was below average.

Not bad for a small town. Waiter was kind and answered any questions. I think if they added some light music it would change the entire environment and experience in a positive way.
