3.5 overall. The food wasn’t great, but not bad either. The ambience was nice and the service fast and friendly. Giving it a 3.5 because the food was a bit overpriced in terms of quality and portions. This seems to be a common thing about sushi restaurants in South Lake Tahoe, Reno is a much better deal when it comes to sushi/poke.

What a gem at Lake Tahoe. Their scallops melt in your mouth. Fish are fresh. The edemame appetizer just hits the spot with its spicy tangy kick. The yellowtail roll was fatty fishy goodness. I suggest getting the Spicy Raiders Temaki for its flavor bomb goodness. Service was superb. Will visit again.

Locals or visitors! CANNOT tell you how wonderful this place is! We happened in on a chance drive-by…and thank God we did. We are kinda picky about our sushi & this quality of sushi was impeccable. From the freshness- to the presentation-to the flavor. LIGHTS OUT! Staff was incredible, esp chef! What a great person! Made our visit worth it!

Great sushi! Bustling little restaurant so they must be popular! They were packed but got us in by the fire which was very nice. Wait was understandingly a little long but not awful. I got the Powder House Roll which was soooo yummy!! Sashimi appetizer and chicken teriyaki dish were also tasty. Would def go back.

Went again March 2024. Sat around the fire which was really nice. I got the Powder House roll again- best roll ever! And the ahi tuna seaweed salad- large portion and delish. Miso soup was yummy. Way less packed but wait was still long.

somewhat affordable sushi for the area and other menu items are decent. friendly servers. casual place no fuss. not so touristy.

BUT..had to knock 1 star off bc on their website menu which we’re instructed to look at from a QR code, stated that the prices for scallops and amaebi nigiri were lower than what they actually billed us. we didn’t realize this until we left and looked at the menu again bc we remembered it being a bit cheaper so we thought that was a great deal and ordered a lot of it.

FYI it’s extremely bad practice to show different/lower prices on the menu and misled people to order and NOT informing us whether some nigiri prices are outdated etc (if it is indeed outdated) orrrr just over-billing us and the menu prices were correct. this left a sour taste in our mouth after having a good meal. we tipped servers well, too… how unfortunate. we’re from out of towns so won’t be going back here.

WARNING: pay attention to your bill and compare it with the online menu, patrons.

Great dining experience
We enjoyed our sashimi dinner and soft shelled crab rolls. The pickled ginger was just right also. The miso soup and rice rhat came with the sashimi were good as well. Except for the music in the restaurant, it’s almost an authentic Japanese dining experience.

Amazing! 100% satisfied, it was our first time here, we ordered various rolls, they were all delicious. Usually when we try a few different rolls, one or two don’t meet our expectations but all the ones we tried were delicious! The salmon, tuna and shrimp were so soft and fresh. The 49ers roll is delicious. We are fans of raw salmon, the Tahoe roll is also yummy. The waiters were friendly and attentive to the current safety regulations. May was our waiter, very sweet.
Reasonably priced.

This is a sushi review for those who are allergic to shellfish. While there are many rolls with shrimp or crab, we had the Sierra, the Caterpillar, the Salmon Skin, and the Unagi Rolls. All four of them were deliciously well flavored and my partner and I were excited to have them without worrying about shellfish allergies. In addition, while many sushi places in the bay area make big rolls that require 2-3 bites to eat without contorting your mouth, the specific pieces were small and that made every bite more impactful. We also had a seat at the bar section and the knife work was specifically impressive. If I had to compare this place to bay area sushi, I would say Samurai is a quintessential example of a “less is more” approach and it pays off. Incredible experience. I’ll be back 🙂
