A hidden gem. Maybe 25 tables available for seating. Breakfast served all day. We ordered the two top specials for the day and a coffee, after taxes was $28.59. Food was fine, eggs were rich farm flavors. No complaints.

We stopped in at Sam’s Kitchen after visiting UVA, and it was such a pleasant surprise! The place has that classic, welcoming diner vibe that makes you feel right at home.
We both ordered grilled cheese and fries with brown gravy on the side, and everything was cooked to perfection and crispy fries, gooey cheese, with deliciously rich gravy. The service was friendly and attentive, and the cozy atmosphere made it the perfect spot to relax after a long day.
Highly recommend stopping by if you’re in Charlottesville with great comfort food and a warm, local feel!

Such a cozy, welcoming spot with great service! My husband and I were just passing through town and stopped in for breakfast, what a pleasant surprise. We had an amazing meal! The bacon strips were the best we’ve ever had, the pancakes and waffle were delicious, and the chicken fajita eggs were absolutely amazing. It took a little time for the food to arrive, but it was well worth the wait. Plus, the prices are very reasonable. A great find!

Visited this spot for breakfast, I wouldn’t go back. While it is a family run business which shows from the “mama” being yelled out by the staff members. The food was subpar, the potatoes tasted like the oil they were cooked in. The waffle wasn’t bad, but not anything that you can’t get somewhere else. The decor and vibe reminds me of a flee market. It’s definitely a hidden hole in the wall spot that doesn’t seem to be too busy.

This is a great quiet place to have breakfast/lunch/dinner the food choices are on point as well as the customer service. My grandkids always ask to go eat breakfast.

Breakfast is good but lunch isn’t as good.
It usually takes 15-20 minutes for your food, however staff are kind and respectful.
Atmosphere isn’t the best, drop ceiling looks like it’s about to fall in some places, and there is a lot of elders who eat here. Because I’m young, I often get starred at by them; it definitely makes me uncomfortable. I often only get to eat half of my meal before I ask for a box so I can finish it in my car.

The food was good. Our waitress was good. However, the chair I was sitting in collapsed when I sat down on it. It splintered and I fell backwards on the floor. Luckily, I didn’t get hurt or impaled by the splintered back when I fell. I’m also lucky I didn’t hit my head when I fell backwards. I was surprised that I wasn’t offered a discount or had my meal comped. Shouldn’t be surprised though when a male staff member, don’t know if he was a waiter or manager, thought it was all very funny and made jokes about it. Don’t even think I got an apology.

Visited Sam’s Kitchen for the first time, and it definitely has that old-school diner vibe I love as a New Jersey native. I tried the cheeseburger omelette, which wasn’t bad but needed a good amount of salt and pepper (maybe they forgot or left it out on purpose). I also got a side of biscuits with sausage gravy. The biscuit wasn’t anything special—wish it had been flakier—but the sausage gravy was tasty and really helped bring it together.
My partner ordered the breakfast sampler with eggs, bacon, pancakes, and home fries. The sausage had a nice kick to it, and the pancakes were a bit fluffy but a little hard on the outside. The real star of the plate was the home fries, which were perfectly seasoned with peppers and onions—definitely a must-order!
Service was a bit slow, especially since the place wasn’t packed, but overall, it’s a decent spot for breakfast. The prices are really cheap, and it’s conveniently close to where I live, so I’ll definitely be back to try more of the menu.

Yummy sandwiches; a laid back, old-fashion diner/sandwich shop that we go to for breakfast or lunch whenever we are nearby.
. Also, very kind people: I went in today after a root canal, to treat myself to a comforting chocolate milkshake. The waiter said they had closed (after 3 PM). Melinda, who runs the place , overheard me, and insisted on making a milkshake for me AND one for my husband ( on her off hours). Such a dear! (and the milkshake was delicious!).
