I thought maybe the last time I came here. It was just having a bad day when I dined in. But I just had takeout yesterday and the food is not the quality. It used to be. I don’t know what’s going on here. I’ve been coming here for 13 years. And the food quality has gone downhill. If you are looking for a fancy, modern Italian fusion spot, this isn’t it. But if you want a hearty, comforting meal that feels like it came out of a family kitchen, Sam’s Italian Restaurant is a fantastic choice. It’s a true local staple in the Grand Blanc area for a reason.
The Food:
You absolutely cannot come here without ordering the Samoritos. They are essentially deep-fried dough bites served with their house meat sauce, and they are addictive. It sounds simple, but they are the highlight of the meal every time.
The pizza is also very solid—old-school style with a good crust and generous toppings (the “Grand Gourmet” is a favorite). If you are in the mood for pasta, the lasagna is hearty and clearly homemade. Portions are huge, so expect to take leftovers home.
The Atmosphere:
The vibe is very casual and family-friendly. It has a bit of that “dated” charm, but in a way that feels cozy rather than neglected. It’s the kind of place where you see large families gathering for birthdays. Because of that, it can get a little loud when it’s busy, but that’s part of the charm.

Heard so many great stories about this place for years and finally got to eat here. It was absolutely Delicious, just amazing. Huge portions and excellent customer service! The atmosphere just finished everything off perfectly. Will definitely be back next time we are in Michigan. Great vibe.

We ordered baked spaghetti with sausage and marinara. So called marinara was canned tomatoes, cheap ones at that! Not even cooked. Flavorless. Not cooked. Raw canned tomatoes. No spice that we could detect. My husband’s spaghetti was almost white. Mine was at least a little pink.
The roll was better than the meal. When you cheapen your food, you lose customers! Sometimes the food is wonderful. But not as a rule anymore. Last two visits have been terrible.

Took the wife here for lunch. We had the cheese sticks and onion rings as apps. Both were very good. The meat sauce they use is absolutely great. It tastes very homemade. My wife got a stuffed shell, I got veal and lasagna combo. The veal is what you expect for the price you pay, but oh man is the pasta great.
If you want something that isn’t Olive Garden, and taste a bit more homemade I would recommend this place. The waitresses were also amazing.

Absolutely fantastic pizza! The 9 item special was delicious. Best thing was the ground ham, sausage, beef. The crust was cooked perfectly nothing was wasted on this pizza. We seriously picked the topping from the box before it was discarded. My new goto place for pizza. I wasn’t paid for this review and I had never been there before. I’ll definitely be a new regular to this establishment. Great food!
