An evening at Samrub Samrub Thai is certainly a memorable experience. It’s clear they know their way around Thai flavors and cooking techniques. Still, the overall experience did not quite meet expectations.

The appetizers were creative and enjoyable, though the use of garlic was a bit heavy. With the main courses, they lost some harmony in the flavors; chili and fish sauce tended to dominate, leaving little room for subtlety. Presentation could have been more refined as well, some dishes had to be shared from one plate, and the pigeon was difficult to eat due to many small bones.

The pace of the meal felt rushed, with courses served in quick succession. The wine list was limited, and there was no wine pairing available; only a few wines could be ordered by the glass. We were seated at the beautiful bar overlooking the kitchen, which offered a great view, though the smoke from the barbecue opposite us filled the room, leaving our clothes smelling strongly afterwards.

What was particularly unfortunate was that the chef had clearly had a bit too much to drink at the time, which left an unprofessional impression. It created an awkward atmosphere for both the guests and the staff.

All in all, it was an interesting evening and quite an experience, but it fell short of what one would expect at this level. Fortunately, we had excellent company; two lovely ladies from Hong Kong made the evening enjoyable.

Had dinner with my best friend here in Nov 25, their thematic was that time west side story, meaning culinary adventure to western part of Thailand next to Myanmar.

Their service was great, attentive and full description on each menu and inspiration coming tp create such menu.

Portion was petit, as i expected, need to space on my belly for 8 course meal.

We ordered additional steak, very nice and very simple and light sauce a combination of soy sauce and others.

Have wanted to try this place for some time finally managed to booked it.
Pretty centrally located and very easy to get to by walking from the BTS or MRT station. I tried to Grab here and got stuck in a bad jam just turning in from the main road and I ended up walking into the restaurant.
Its a small and cosy restaurant like sitting at the counter and watching the whole team in action. Came for the 530pm first round of seating and the moment we sat they were already ready to fire out the dishes.
I have to say the dishes were all pretty good and unique. For me the flavours some of it might need a bit of getting used to, it’s Thai cuisine but its not the typical Thai cuisine that you eat everyday in the typical restaurants or street food in Bangkok.
They feature the local ingredients and elements in the dishes that you sometimes will find it surprising. For me it’s really an experience and a wild time for my tastebuds to get to explore the complexity in flavours and yet good food.
Of course there were a few standouts for me, especially the crab and the Thai version of their wagyu beef.
It’s really pretty experimental and they change their menu every 2 months but unfortunately they do not really have a signature dish which stays on in their menu.
The tasting menu is pretty reasonable and would recommend this if you really like to take a ride to try out the unique recipes from Samrub Samrub Thai.
Reservations required. They usually have the 530pm and the 8pm seatings.

More casual style restaurant, with dishes coming out in quick succession. We were seated at 5:30pm, and most other tables were done by 7:30pm. We finished around 7:50pm (but we also ordered the special menu so we had one extra course). Everything was great. The chef was not drunk they change their menu every 2 months so will be coming back.

With local and fresh ingredients, flavors are so complex and full of surprises. Professionally presented on table.
Staff are super nice. Such a great dining experience.
Although some of the dishes were too spicy for me, but the food was really tasty and sensational.
Strongly recommend if you wanna try modern taste of Thailand.
Make sure to secure your table online! 🙂

Visited 8pm on 4 December. Can’t complain about the food and service, but the seating in front of the open charcoal grill really needs better ventilation. The smoke and heat made it difficult to enjoy the meal, and I left the restaurant smelling like charcoal. I’ve visited many barbecue and hotpot restaurants, but this was the most uncomfortable ventilation-wise. I’ve mentioned this to the restaurant owner before I leave so hopefully they can improve the airflow as well as the dining experience of other customers who had to sit there in the future.

Real good Thai food. You are sitting all together at a big table and watch the crew prepari g every single dish including presentation. It was a unique and great experience. The food was perfectly cooked – however some said it was too spicy. For me the taste was just perfect. I didn’t like the speed of serving. I habent finished one course and was already served with the next – not only did it give me a feeling of rush but also kind of pushy and request to hurry.

The food is really only average and surely did not worth the amount that we paid by a far far distance.
The service is non existent. It is supposed to be a Michelin 1 star restaurant, and the service is like a street stall and worse.
My friend would like to taste the wine before we put like $20 USD down for a glass ( which is really only 125ml). There is only 3 choices of wine that one can order by the glass on their wine list, and by the time we tried the 2 whites and a bit of sake and could not find one that was satisfactory to have with our dinner, and wanted to try something else on the wine list, the senior staff was already rolling her eyes to the ceiling and making hand gestures in front of us to her sommelier to cut us off. Wow.
We ended up ordering a $90 bottle of sparkling wine.
And it came to food delivery, we were eating our first course only and suddenly, bang bang bang, three more courses that were to come one by one, were slammed in front of us, including a fish dish that should be eaten hot….and I called them out and said ” hey we are not ready for the rest of the courses yet…” but they did not care and said that is how their kitchen schedule their preparations and it cannot be changed.
My friend liked the crepe/pancake that was served and would like to ask for one more, Again, No, they could not do that. The food portions are all fixed and the kitchen had moved on to doing somethings else and could not make another one.
Then came the fish and other courses that were so spicy that we cannot eat it, and actually all the other customers could not stomach the spiciness either and had to left the food there. The different dishes had different sauces, and they did not give us a clean dish for the new course, so the sauce of the new dish was slop on the sauce of the last dish like it doesn’t matter if they mix….
Half way through eating, because they were grilling the food inside the restaurant and there was not sufficient ventilation, I could feel the carbon monoxide and smoke accumulating, and I asked them if they have a carbon monoxide monitor in the house, and if they mind either opening a window or the door, and of course, No, they don’t have one and could not open any door or windows.
At some point the “Celebrity Chef” came over to try to talk to us, and he was so totally either drunk or stoned, that he was totally incomprehensible and incoherent. All the diners noticed and the response were the same, they could hear words coming out of his mouth but didn’t have a clue what he was saying.
All in all, a very expensive dinner with half the food too spicy to eat, rude and bad service, unsafe dining environment.
Luckily, the evening was saved by a delightful couple from Europe sitting next to us and we shared a bottle of champagne and laughed off the experience.

Amazing experience with an incredibly talented crew, and a staff that went way out of their way to make our night special. The chef shows off elevated versions of dishes found across rural Thailand. We wanted to get one high end dinner on our honeymoon, and we couldn’t have been happier with Samrub Samrub. Reservations are required and you pay when reserving.

A delicious and memorable meal/experience with a lovingly crafted hyper regional menu (that apparently changes completely every couple months). Very welcoming and warm service. I wish we could come back to Bangkok every two months just to try the new menu! Thanks, Chef Prin!
