Note to the owner: Please consider refreshing or recoloring the name board of the food truck—it’s barely visible! I’d love to see the name shine as much as the chai does.
Samay Chai instantly caught my attention—mainly because it shares the same name as my son. That alone was reason enough to stop by, but I stayed for the chai… and I’m glad I did.
The tea absolutely delivered. I loved the variety of flavors on the menu—rosemary, pistachio, ginger, cardamom and more. It’s refreshing to see creative spins on a classic without losing authenticity. The chai was comforting, aromatic, and clearly made with care.
I also tried the sabudana vada, and it was beautifully prepared—crispy and crunchy on the outside, soft and flavorful on the inside. It’s not always easy to get that texture balance right, but they nailed it.
Overall, a charming little spot with personality and good flavors. I’m definitely coming back to try more from the menu.

The chai is very good. They ran out of the orange-pistachio chai, but we tried the ginger-cardamom and rosemary-ginger chai’s which hit the spot on a cold evening! Went back for seconds. We didn’t try the other stuff but maybe we will on our next visit here. There is sitting space in front of the chai truck. Parking may be limited – there is a space that can fit about 5 cars next to the area. You may notice the river flowing by close but it’s not visible or easily accessible from where you will be. Anyway, do check them out if you’re a chai lover!

This place has amazing food and a great cozy vibe. The best vada pav and sabudana vada in Austin! Their Orange Pistachio chai was out of this world! you’ve got to try it. And my personal favorite – “The Chicken Taco” which is like an indian style wrap was fabulous. Certainly a hidden gem!

Highly recommend this place. I had the rosemary and ginger chai which was very good. Not too sweet and it got the essence of rosemary blended nicely.

Stellar exquisite cuisine. The saffron the cardamom, it makes me nostalgic for my childhood in India— and I’m from Indiana lol. These folks take pride in what they do and you can tell, It’s not often that food is so good and so consistent and served in such an atmosphere that it moves me but when it does I make a review, it’s good enough to get weekly visits from me forever. Veggies fresh, the chicken is buttery, the spice blend is so aromatic and perfectly balanced, and needless to say the chai is the chai-est, not to mention the two folks running the truck are some of the friendliest people you’ll ever meet. this food makes me love humanity more. It should get seven out of five stars, if I could give it that’s what I would

Holy yum! Stopped here after a show last night with a friend. The main reason we chose it was because it was seed oil free.

What an incredible experience at Samay Chai! I was able to try all three kinds of chai and loved the rosemary best! It wasn’t too intense, or sweet, just the right amount!! And the food was absolutely incredible, I have never had food this flavorful from a food truck in my life. Y’all need to try this place! Make sure to get smoked paneer curry (I forgot the actual name oops!). Also I loved the appetizers! And the butter chicken was so flavorful with the roti! 10/10 I want to come here all the time

Samay Chai literally took us back to our childhood, growing up in Pune and Bombay. They have nailed the taste, texture and presentation of the sabudana wada and vadapav from the streets! Highly recommended for a trip down memory lane…or to open up the taste buds!! Love it and wish the Saxenas all the best!

Samay chai is fantastic all around! The food is on point, owner the nicest, and chai outta this world.
We ordered butter chicken which came with garlic roti on the side. The butter chicken was creamy and flavorful, the roti thin and perfect to devour it with!
It was my first time having vada pav and I’m sold! While I don’t have anything to compare it to, I hope they’re all this tasty. The bun was soft with chutneys on it, sprinkled with garlic crunch, and the aloo in the middle chunky and packed with flavor.
Also loved the dahi sev puri, which was drenched in dahi and satisfied my chaat cravings! The only thing that could’ve made this even better is tamarind chutney on top as well.
But the CHAI, Y’ALL. They have 3 flavors – rosemary, orange pistachio, and ginger cardamom. I love the creativity in flavors and I’ll be back to try them all! I ordered the orange pistachio, which was magic in my mouth. The subtle favors came together perfectly and I could see the fresh orange shavings at the bottom when finished. It’s chai szn, perfect for a chilly day!
We chatted with the owner for a while after our meal and he told us a little about the origin of the name. Samay is a romanticized word for “moment” in Hindi. It represents how chai creates reason for people to gather, to enjoy a moment together as they enjoy the beverage.
Excited to see the success of this food truck. Go check it out!
