Didn’t know what I was missing! Ordered carry out today, Kudos to Abby, who took my phone order. She was very friendly and attentive on the phone and when I arrived. I mentioned that it was my first visit and she went out of her way to give me information about the restaurant and menu items. I appreciated her exceptional customer service. She was right, the food was amazing! We got a 16 inch pizza with double pepperoni, an order of their veal parm, a tirimisu and a canoli. This was some of the best Italian food I’ve had, and I’ve been to Italy a few times! Everything was fresh, well prepared and simply delicious. (You never know what you’ll end up with when it comes to carry out.) We were 100% happy with our Salvatore experience and ate entirely too much! Ha! Well done Abby.(and the chef)
We will definitely be back soon! Highly Recommend Salvatore’s!

This is such a great authentic hometown Italian spot! The food was excellent especially the chicken marsala and lemon chicken. The drinks were great and the service was outstanding. Highly recommend! The food was so good. I forgot to take pictures of it.

We are from out of town and were looking for a nice Italian restaurant. Salvatore’s was where we ended up. The building is quite old and quaint. The server was good enough but the food was average. My wife got chicken piccata and I got the meat ball sandwich. She really enjoyed her meal but I think the bun could have been heartier for my sub. The same bun was used for the garlic bread. We loved the restaurant’s rich history.

Stopped into Salvatore’s Italian Restaurant & Pizza in Grand Rapids on a Monday evening around 6:30 PM and was seated immediately—no wait at all, which is always a nice start. The place has a casual, comfortable vibe, and everything looked clean and well-kept. My server was quick to greet me and super friendly throughout the visit, which made for a pleasant experience right off the bat.

I ordered the Veal Parmesan, which came out in about 10 minutes—pretty quick for a freshly made dish. The plate looked solid: a generous cut of veal absolutely smothered in sauce and topped with a nice layer of melted cheese. It came with a side of spaghetti that complemented the main dish nicely. The veal had good flavor and was cooked well, and the sauce had a nice richness to it—not too sweet or salty, just a good, hearty red sauce. Nothing overly fancy, but definitely satisfying and felt homemade in the best way.

All in all, it was a good, filling meal at a fair price. If I find myself back in Grand Rapids, I’d happily stop in again.

The atmosphere here definitely feels Italian. It’s not a large place, but it does feel welcoming.

I ordered the Sampler Platter ($22). This consist of small portions of Lasagna, Cheese Manicotti, and Cannelloni. The Lasagna is Layers of pasta, meat sauce, romano cheese, ricotta and mozzarella baked in tomato sauce. The Cheese Manicotti is Homemade crepes stuffed with seasoned beef or ricotta cheese. Baked in tomato sauce and mozzarella. Lastly the Cannelloni is Homemade crepes stuffed with seasoned beef, ham and peas. Baked in tomato sauce and mozzarella. I also got a side of Spaghetti ($4). Everything was very good. I would rank it Lasagna, Cannelloni, Spaghetti, then the Manicotti. The Garlic Bread and Chicken Noodle soup were also excellent. The person I qas with ordered the half order of Lasagna ($12). This person stated hers was excellent.

The service was very good. Very attentive and friendly.

Overall a 4 star review. Would I return? Yes, I will.

Salvatore’s made a great choice for dinner. It’s an old school Italian restaurant with a fairly no-frills interior but the food is the classic kind of red-sauce dishes that made the cuisine popular in the US. I got the sampler platter that came with cheese manicotti, cannelloni, and lasagna. It was delicious and very satisfying. They don’t skimp on the sauce or the cheese. Service was good, and it seems like a popular place. If you’re in the mood for some old-fashioned Italian, you can’t go wrong with Salvatore’s. They do a great job.

The food is the top five Italian Restaurants in Grand Rapids.. I believe everything is homemade. This restaurant has all the classics, and then some (they even put a good solid effort into making their salads). The service was outstanding, and the portions were very, very, generous. They even have their own free parking lot (which is extremely rare for downtown Grand Rapids). Kids menu too. The atmosphere could be a little more fun, other than that, I don’t know how they could improve (some review said GFS food; no way). I’m going back!

EDIT – We did indeed review the correct business. The dinner was late October, and I have phone recordings of the conversations. We also did provide the correct number when confirming over the phone the weekend before. I am in the process of filing fraud complaints at request of my bank. My review stands.

Stay clear of this place. They overcharged us for a wedding rehearsal event by more than 30 percent. Reservations and details were done verbally, and upon being overcharged, manager and waitress refused to give itemization in writing (full receipt). Claimed they had the right to “estimate high” (we did give them the solid number at confirmation a week before), and refused to even verbally break down charge amounts. They held my card hostage upon entry, told us management was not present, but they would fix things that next Monday. John did not, despite two attempts at discussion. We ended up paying almost double what we expected for a quick pizza dinner with no seconds. Filed a complaint with our bank, and was advised today to file additional BBB and fraud complaints, which we will be doing. Beware.

Decided to check this place out after hearing some word of mouth buzz recommending it. We had a dreadful experience.

This is an Italian restaurant. The mozzarella sticks came with chips on the side. They served me red wine in a white wine glass. The Caesar salad wasn’t dressed and came with a pile dumped on of store-grade parmesian dust-style cheese. The soup was a basic can of chicken noodle heated up. The garlic bread was basically a hot dog bun. Neither of us finished our pasta and threw away the leftovers. I’m pretty sure everything here came out of a box or a can. This is GFS, the restaurant.

The hostess didn’t seat us (or see us) for 15 minutes even though we were the only ones standing there waiting. Once seated, it took another 20 minutes before a server came to the table. We ordered right away, figuring the wait would be for everything. They didn’t bring us waters until after the food arrived. It was just an overall mess for service.

It’s a harsh review. I know. I don’t typically do this. You can check my other reviews to confirm. We had a bad time. The kind where we considered leaving at several points throughout. Bright side, the pizza looked pretty good? But we didn’t get any.
