We came in for a late lunch, It wasn’t busy now since everyone probably were done with the lunch rush hour. So it was just me and my dear husband. We enjoyed our food so much. The crew made sure that we get all we need and enjoy their food.
I ordered Mariachi tacos and hubby got the spicy ranchero. We had a full belly and is very pleased and satisfied with what we ordered.

(UPDATE) 2nd time was just as good!!
Fantastic!! I highly recommend, $20 with tip for excellent food and service! I had beef enchiladas with yellow queso (white was optional) with serving of double rice (subbed beans). The salsa was fresh and on point.
If I had one complaint would be my Dr Pepper tasted a lil off but not too bad.(this was fixed on my second visit!)

Really authentic Mexican food spot. Really enjoyed the fresh salsa! It’s sooo good! ☺️ Also had veggie fajitas with corn tortillas, glad they had this option! 🙂

We tried this Mexican cafe one evening and we really liked the white queso. Littlest Flip Out, in particular, absolutely loved it. I tried their Speedy Gonzalez dinner, which was fajita chicken and rice covered in yellow queso. I wish I had thought to substitute the yellow queso with the white queso. Mrs. Flip Out had the street tacos and they were good. The Littles enjoyed their tacos. Our waitress was the only server the night we were there and she did an excellent job staying on top of making sure we and everyone else had what we needed. Don’t forget to check out the world’s largest peanut monument down the street if you stop in at Salvador Cocina.

After spending slightly less than 30 seconds admiring the “World’s Largest Peanut” located at the corner of Durant’s City Hall, we were worn out and hungry. Fortunately, about 200’ from the legendary statue is an excellent little Tex-Mex joint, the Salvador Cocina. (Tex-Mex , NOT Salvadoran) It is in a small historic building just a few away on 3rd Ave. Nicely decorated, comfortable, tables, no booths and bar seating if you like.
#9 for me, relleno and a taco. My wife chose the one enchilada Lunch #11. Everything was filled with well-seasoned ground beef. A big beef fille relleno and a big taco on my plate. The enchilada had the good authentic red chili sauce. The salsas (picante and mild) were tomato based but well-seasoned; adequate. The service was excellent!
A neat place to have a meal. We enjoyed our visit. Oh, don’t miss the peanut.
If you are looking for other Mexican restaurants in the area, check out my reviews in my collection “Jalapeno Highway” on Yelp. I’ve probably been there.

It was mediocre. Food was okay. Their white quezo and chips were good though. Their music uplifts the atmosphere. Staff were welcoming but very slow. It wasn’t too busy during this hour; only 4 tables were occupied but too slow to get our drink. We’ve ordered “the 3rd st special and chile relelleno”

I may not be the ideal person to ask for a review. I have high standards because I’ve been to our coasts and our borders and beyond. I’ve had some of the best and most authentic Mexican food. I had the Durant Grande Plate. It was very filling. This is the sad part: The taco was the highlight of the meal. It was just like an American makes at home. Everything else was so saturated with the flavor of the sauces that it took me a while to realize that I hadn’t eaten the tomale first. It became obvious when the taste of the corn tortilla kicked the rest of its flavor to the curb. I was given the option to choose the enchilada types so I had the cheese one replaced with a chicken. The two chicken enchiladas had different sauces so I can’t tell you whether the original was the better of the two. I can say this about the place. I’m more full than I am after a meal at Villegas and for $0.59 less. Also the sweet tea is MUCH better here. I give every place three chances so I haven’t given up on this place yet. To put things into perspective, two of the most notable places I’ve written off are Main Street BBQ and Roma’s. The Roadhouse is one strike away from being written off for seating restrictions while not even remotely busy.
