The fish and chips were excellent. I would say this is the best I have had anywhere.
We shared a two piece cod and an order of mushy peas.
The fries were freshly cooked and nicely salted and were hot, chunky, and crispy.
The fish was crispy and not hard, and also moist. The mushy peas are made in house and NOT microwaved. Yes! Finally!
And lastly the ice water was quite refreshing. The difference in taste compared to city water was notable.
The bill was about $30 for two of us and we were happily, full.
The washroom was nice and clean.
We will definitely be back.

Dropped in for halibut and chips. Was greeted by friendly staff and seated right away. She brought us menus but I noticed the special on the blackboard and ordered right away. We ordered drinks at the same time. We got our happy but still no drinks, We got our fish n chips but still no drinks. Sp when the server asked us if there was anything else they could get us. I reminded her of the drinks. Thus the 4/5 stars. The fries were crispy and the right potato to give the right flavor. The fish Halibut was tender and moist the batter just the right crunch cooked to perfection. All in all the food was great and the missed drinks not the end of the world. Would I go back again definitely.

Hands down the very best fish and chips in the Cowichan Valley. The only reason I haven’t put up a review here before because I typically have eaten half before I remember to take a picture. Food is always hot, always fresh and the fries are to die for. As for the fish…..fantastic, generous portions you won’t leave hungry. I only wish I could give this place 6 stars.

Best decision I made trying to find a place for lunch. The guys working there were amazing, great service. The halibut was flaky, soft, lightly buttered, delicious. The shrimp and prawns perfectly cooked. 5 starts every single time.

Visiting the area and traveling through from Victoria to Comox and were hit with the hungrys and we found Salty’s. A very non descript location in a small strip mall on the highway. We thought…why not! We were certainly not disappointed. From the moment we entered and noticed that every table was occupied we knew we had stumbled upon something great. We were greeted promptly, given a place to sit and within a very few minutes were seated at a table. The service was prompt and friendly. The menu…not extensive after all it is a fish and chip (seafood) restaurant…and that is what we wanted. The food, excellent. The best fish and chips we have had. If you are looking for high end atmosphere and a spectacular view…this may not be your location. But if you want friendly, prompt service and excellent fish and chips try Salty’s Fish and Chips on the highway south end of Duncan.

I had Halibut with coleslaw and my friend had cod & chips. Table was set with a bottle of malt vinegar and a bottle of tartar sauce. Don’t forget to check the board on the wall as it displays the daily specials!

For a restaurant that all they do is fish and chips it was not very good. The two pieces of fish I had were like oil sponges I could not believe how greasy the fish was. This is caused by too low of heat on the deep fryer. it’s such a no-brainer. I am a retired chef and I’m not talking white spot. I’m talking real chef hotel chef I can’t believe they would make such a basic mistake. Terrible would not recommend this place at all.

The fish was really good but the fries were kind of limp and slightly soggy. Would have been good if they were crunchy and crisp.
Service was excellent and the atmosphere was okay.

Update: Since the original review. We ate here a few times since as our food stop to and from Victoria. The prices has gone up since but not surprising with the inflation issues of 2022. However it’s still great fish and chips even without the ayce Tuesday. I recommend going for the halibut it’s worth the extra money. The tarter sauce issue I had with them on my original review is not an issue now. It seems like it might of been that day but since I like the tarter sauce.
Original review: We came on Tuesday for the all you can eat for $16, but due to Covid-19 it’s not offered. We decided to still give them a try. My wife ordered the West Coast Bisque (Mix seafood thick soup) $4.5 and British Traditional (2 Hadcod, Panko Shrimp, slaw and chips) $22.75. I ordered the 2 pieces Cod, slaw and chips $17.75.
The Bisque was pack full of seafood and flavor in a small bowl. It came out piping hot and we really enjoyed it. The British Traditional is basically 2 pieces Hadcod, slaw and chips plus $4 for Panko Shrimp. Definitely worth the extra $4 if you are hungry because they give a good amount of it. Panko Shrimp is was good along with the slaw. Both fish had great meat size, lightly batter and oil was fresh. The two thing we didn’t like much was the chips and tartar sauce. The fries lacked a bit of flavor. However I believe you can substitute for onion rings or more slaw as the other tables did that. The tartar sauce was not the best I had. The sauce is the 2nd most important thing! Which is what kept me from giving it 5 stars.
If you are undecided between the two fish. Me and my wife think it’s worth the extra $1 for the Hadcod. It had a lighter and less fishy taste vs Cod. Halibut the best, but also comes with a high price, but Hadcod is a nice balance of quality and value. Stay away from Pollock if you see it offered.
Service was quick and friendly. I am glad we tried them out and hope they bring back the Tuesday all you can eat for $16, but I doubt I can eat more than 2-3 pieces of Cod!

We passed by Ducan in our trip and stay here for lunch. We had the lunch specials of cod and fried shrimps which are awesomely prepared. The cod are juicy and fresh to a right degree . With the Piper’s Pale Ale, the combination was just wonderful. And good priced as well. Recommend 😉
