I would give this a 0 if I could! This was our weekly hangout for many years. But, no more! The staff has completely changed and the menu is WAY overpriced! Tonight was our first time in since the new management, and what a major disappointment! We used to love to get the 1 pound popcorn shrimp which was reasonably priced and delicious. It is no longer on the menu. So we looked online to see what they had and decided we would give it a try even though our favorite menu item was taken away. Attached you will see the menu that we saw online, but when we got there it was completely different. The Prince Edward Island Blue Mussels for $9.49 looked good to us, so we went there based on this. After we had already ordered drinks we found out that the online menu is a complete sham!! The mussels were over $20.00! When I showed the bartender the online ad, he said he was going to talk to his manager upstairs. She came down to talk to us and had a very lame explanation that didn’t even make any sense. She said that this was not Salty Mike’s menu…. Blah, blah blah. Really?! She went on to say “But thank you for telling me because I didn’t know this was out there online. We will have to get that fixed” Bottom line, they would not honor the price and we will never go back! Oh, by the way, this happened hours ago and nothing has changed with their false advertising online. A month from now they will still be misleading people. Stay away from here, unless you want to pay high prices for subpar drinks, just to have a view of a little water. There are plenty of places in Charleston with Happy Hour drink and food prices. This is not one of them! And just as a side note, any local person that used to come here, can look at this menu and know that it is a brand new menu. None of the items on this menu were ever served by Salty Mike’s in the past. So the fact that someone put these false prices online and didn’t the update or change them is just ridiculous. I hope they go out of business!

Safe harbor is worth over 6 billion dollars and they tore out all of the wood booths and the old bar downstairs just to replace it with plastic counters? We can’t even get some fake granite? None of the old employees are there anymore either. This place served as a comfort spot for so many people, not what the community needed right now

Would give 0 stars if possible

New ownership took a chainsaw and a blowtorch to the culture and the community around this bar. Not a single person wants another generic overpriced and tacky bar. People want authenticity and good people.
Unfortunately, new ownership doesn’t see things this way. They fired all the original staff because they loved taking care of their regulars – insanity!

Boycotting for all eternity and beyond the grave until ownership changes to somebody who cares about the community!!!

As a Charleston native, this was our favorite drinking spot in town. Words do not even begin to describe the frustration and utter disappointment we feel since the change in ownership and push out of the OG staff. Drink prices quickly increased and the bar instantly began to feel like the average, touristy, and overpriced bar you can find anywhere else in Charleston. New ownership clearly does not value the relationships staff has built with customers over the past 10+ years. I cannot emphasize enough to tourist or visitors to support other business that are at least owned by Charleston families rather than large corporations. Avoid at all costs unless the original crew returns.

Went tonight to discover all the longtime staff were gone. The new updates aren’t bad, but be advised the bathrooms don’t work as designed and they had to close early because of them. Drink prices are stupid high. This was a locals bar, clearly that isn’t the intent now.

DO NOT SUPPORT NEW OWNERSHIP.

When we first heard that Salty Mike’s ownership had changed, we were worried that the new owners would shake things up like increase prices, ruin atmosphere, etc. All of which have happened, as expected. What we DIDN’T expect was for them to cause their elite staff of bartenders to quit due to their new policies. Shawn, Lindsay, Ryan and everyone were top tier and were likely the sole reason that Salty Mike’s thrived for as long as it did. It is an idiotic mistake by ownership here and I foresee this leading to closure in the near future. I will not be returning until the old crew is back.

Being a small town gal now at MUSC, this place has been a slice of home during med school. Great atmosphere, even better staff. Cheap beer and incredibly kind owner(with an amazing memory. Haven’t been in about a year and he recognized me immediately) which is very rare in Charleston. Much love to the staff for always being so lovely!

New ownership has barged in, and destroyed the staff and community that made this place special. Corporate greed and a general disconnect with patrons is why I do not support new owners.

A must stop when I’m in town. A local legend. Great service and nice view on the back deck. Pool tables also.

The best part of this establishment is the view. Way over priced food and half ass service. Bartender was talking about the new owners…and wasn’t positive.
