Only drawback…they aren’t selling sweatshirts to rep the brand…hope they do soon!!
Update: Vernon (big chef) sat down and chatted with us for a while and got to know us and it made the experience even greater.
My first visit since Smoked closed and Salty Cow Tavern opened. We went on a Wednesday evening, which is their trivia night, so please make note of that as it will get busy fast.
I had The Catch All which is their three cheese mac and cheese in a bowl that is topped with brisket burnt ends, shrimp, onion rings, and green onions. All these items are layered on the mac and cheese and NOT mixed in like shrimp and grits are presented. I’ve provided a photo for those that need a visual.
I’ll be honest, I wasn’t too sure about this combination, but I was really craving some brisket burnt ends and I like shrimp, onion rings, and mac and cheese. This meal turned out to be a pleasant surprise because of the layered presentation. I chose to eat the items individually and not stir them together. I would highly recommend this unique dish.
I cannot say enough about our server’s personable, pleasant, and joking interactions with our group of eight. Considering it was trivia night, our group size, and how busy it was, she kept her pleasantness throughout the evening.
Our amazing server, Jackie – who was new there, was super friendly and helpful.
Had a very nice Porter on tap. Incredible number of beers on tap to choose from.
Very interesting menu with many different choices for all tastes.
Sushi menu was also extensive.
Opted for the Blue Crab fritters with the tiki sauce. They need to sell this sauce, it was that good. The Fritters were killer and a great starter.
Split the Calabash Combo with the flounder but asked for grilled shrimp instead of the fried.
Excellent, perfectly cooked and very nice portions. The mac n cheese side was also very tasty. But the broccoli was really outstanding. Perfectly cooked and whatever dressing/seasoning they used was amazing. Definitely someone who knows what they’re doing in that kitchen.
Had a lovely chat with the manager about how good everything was and that we’d love to come back again.
Highly recommended if you’re nearby.

Not much has changed except a few menu items. We were not really big fans of the previous restaurant, bc the food was overpriced for what it was. Decided to try it again since they rebranded and have sushi now. We ordered the swamp fries and they were ok….fries came super fast and had definitely been under a heat lamp. It was not worth the price they are charging for them. My husband has fries with his meal and said they weren’t fresh either. The sushi rolls I had were good and priced similar to rolls in other places. We went after the rush, so the wait wasn’t bad, and our waiter was friendly, although we did sit with empty water glasses for a few minutes. Husband had a hot chicken sandwich with slaw, and he liked the chicken, but said “the slaw ain’t hitting on much”. Overall the food is pretty good/ok, but not as good as the prices are high. For this reason, it will not be a place we go regularly, just like when it was Smoked.
1/16/26: We stopped in for the first time tonight. Had to circle the parking lot one time looking for a space, but we found one. Thought there’d be a wait but we sat right down in a very nice booth. The food was AMAZING!! Our server, Jaden, was very personable and fun! Definitely going back for more 🙂
The place has a great atmosphere and we’ll be back to try the sushi. I can highly recommend this restaurant.
