Probably my favorite place in the smokies. My Dad and I come for the environment and staff. They’re wonderful to talk to and they make you feel like family. The environment is something many spend a lifetime looking for, it’s simply a time period that is gone, except here. The Conway Twitty playing, the Busch Light is cold, the shrimp is divine. You won’t find a place or people like this in many other places if any. Friendly reminder, you’ll be met with the same energy/attitude you bring in….as you should be!

We went in and there were FOUR people in the bar-3 tvs. We were looking to watch the LSU game. We asked if they could put it on one tv and they said absolutely not. I get we’re in TN and if the bar was packed and had TN fans in it, I wouldn’t have asked. Don’t advertise as a sports bar, or a “friendly “ dine bar and treat customers like that.

This is mine and my wife’s favorite place in the Smokies. People search most of their lives for a bar with the vibes The Salty Bear yields and never find it. The owners treated us like family and everyone who seems to come in there becomes friends just because it’s such a great atmosphere. If you like oysters, do not skip them here because you won’t be disappointed. Great food, great drinks, great people, great prime country music (if you don’t like that I feel sorry for you). We’re from Nashville and I’ve seen a lot of great bars in my time but this place is on my Mt Rushmore of places to get a cold beer.

Was really excited to try this spot for oysters. Looked like our kind of spot from the outside, but the only thing salty about it was the bartender. We sat down and before we’d been there even 10 minutes she rudely told us we needed to order something or leave when we asked for waters as if we were squatting when we were clearly looking at the menu. We were deciding if the oysters and food were what we wanted since we had fabulous oysters at Chesapeake’s the night before. These seemed overpriced especially for the terriblly rude service. We would’ve gotten them anyway had she given us a moment to discuss and not been so unwelcoming. We both have worked service jobs, that was a very disappointing and unexpected experience. Probably why the place was dead.

The bartender was rude and abrasive. I noticed from other reviews that some people get treated with kindness and others feel unwelcome and uncomfortable. So I guess you get what you get depending on her mood or the day.

We did not find so I can’t comment on food service or food quality. I did notice that six oysters and a half pound of shrimp were $42.00.

Well it was pouring down rain and I didn’t have ID. The barmaid/owner told me I needed it,if I wanted to be served. I’m 67,I know the law in Tennessee. She hardly glanced at it and charged me $9.00 for a corona?? It was nasty on her part, not one other bar asked for ID ever in 30 yrs here. Also didn’t see her check anyone else’s ID. She seems just like she rather be anywhere else .

Only stopped for drinks – the couple next to us had oysters though and they seemed to be impressed. It was really quiet as we were the only other people in there. Service was understandably swift. I tried the oyster shooter. Not sure why but wasn’t expecting to have an oyster in the glass – oops prices are a tad steep. They have lots of Christmas decorations and music so feels really festive. Also have tvs for sports. And the restrooms are clean and spacious.

This place will charge you too much for drinks $11 for a corona. You walk into a dingy smelly building and are greated with a flea market atmosphere. Should of checked out the rest of the reviews before stopping.
