We have been coming to Salt lick for many years now. It has always been a staple, go to and reliable for us. The vibe has always been wonderful. Always a down home, welcoming feel. This visit was a total let down. The noise was so loud it was hard to have a conversation sitting across from one another. The service was not great, very slow, and the “manager” was very full of himself, in a very annoying “look at me” type of way. The food has drastically gone down hill. We used to rave about the chicken, but it was flavourless, and very underwhelming. The brisket and the pulled pork were actually pretty good. The sides (beans and Mac and cheese) were not great, beans were hard and the Mac and cheese was overcooked. We have always recommended this place for people to try, but after this meal it is doubtful we will again.

Saltlick is hands down awesome BBQ! The service was friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. Their local beer selection was excellent – we really enjoyed Aquanova’s Yuzu lager The brisket was tender, smoky, and packed with flavour. The pork belly nuggets were an absolute standout — crispy on the outside and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. We’ll definitely be back for more!

The service is authentically fun and intuitive. Tasty cocktails, a delicious blueberry ale on the last visit and tasty house made sweet tea. The food HAS to be made with love and passion. I love to cook, serve and eat good food, and Saltlick is absolutely good food, well presented and superbly delivered by one of the best servers we’ve met in ages.

Amazing food. The brisket is to die for, just melts in your mouth like butter. Jerk chicken was great too. To top it all off the service as good as the food. To think of personalized service on a busy night is near impossible but everyone got the same. Our host’s energy was contagious. He made us feel as though we were with family. Definitely recommend. Fair warning go with a fully appetite, you’ll need it as they don’t hold back on the portions.

I stopped by Saltlick Smokehouse and ordered the 3 Meats Platter with brisket, southern fried chicken, and jerk chicken, plus brisket mac and cheese and roasted potatoes on the side.
The chicken really stood out. Both styles were incredible. The southern fried chicken was crispy with a perfect seasoning blend, and the inside was extremely juicy. The jerk chicken was full of flavour with the right amount of spice and depth. Easily the best part of the platter.
The brisket was a bit on the dry side for me, but the fatty pieces were amazing and had all the flavour and tenderness you want from brisket.
The brisket mac and cheese was nice and comforting, and the roasted potatoes were solid.
I also met the owner, Kyle, who was very friendly and welcoming. Great hospitality and good vibes overall.
Looking forward to trying more of their menu next time.

This is our new favourite place to eat. We had a lovely Valentine’s Day lunch here. Our server, Marion, was so friendly and attentive. She gave us some excellent food recommendations and was great to talk to. Our food was incredible. It’s served beautifully on wooden cutting boards, and the flavours are sooo good!
In short:food was hot, tasted great, and our server rocked. If you’re looking for a place to eat in Hamilton, I cannot recommend the Salt Lick enough!

The food at Salt Lick Smoke House was absolutely amazing. We ordered the feast, and it did not disappoint—perfect for anyone who wants to try a little bit of everything. The spread included five different meats, and every single one was packed with flavor. The pulled pork was tender and smoky, the jerk chicken had just the right kick, the ribs were fall-off-the-bone good, and the brisket was juicy and cooked to perfection.
The sides were just as impressive. The mac and cheese was rich and creamy, the cornbread was soft and comforting, and the southern fried chicken was crispy and well-seasoned. The Nashville hot chicken brought the heat without overpowering the flavor.

I came here earlier today and had a great time, the server was great, she was so sweet and really made this experience that much more enjoyable, a lot of servers nowadays dont know how to do their job properly but she was so kind. the food was delicious, it was a good price for the amount and quality, the noodles were a bit over cooked but still so good, the chicken was mu favorite and was so juicy, flavourful and had the right amount of spice, i will definitely be recommending this restaurant to all my friends and family and hope when i come back, which i will be doing, that i get the same great service i got today.

Being a Texan that moved to Hamilton 9 months ago. I wanted some food that reminded me of home! This place did not disappoint. We ordered “The Feast” that comes with every type of meat the have. The brisket and ribs were as good as any barbecue restaurant in Texas. The fried chicken was amazing and the sausage and pulled pork was phenomenal. Every bite had me feeling like I was back home in Texas. I can’t describe how delicious this barbecue is. And the brisket Mac n cheese is the best I’ve had in my life (hope mom doesn’t see this). They smoke the meats right out back and their pit master knows what he’s doing. Alexander was our waiter and also mixologist. He has a great attitude and makes tasty drinks. Amazing place.

2 hours after opening they are out of cornbread and brisket mac and cheese, basically told the table we had for 8 people was booked for 1.5 hrs after our reservation and we had to vacate by then even though only two other tables were occupied, quiet night apparently.
The food was fine, nothing extraordinary, service was prompt and thorough.
The concept of telling a pretty good size bill they had to leave by a certain time while table space for the 8 top coming in was easily created by moving a table or two by the front window, then running out of two of their best items 2- 1/2 hours into the day is just plain lazy o their part in either prep or ordering, regardless, not my problem.
The bill was nearly $500 with tip, I don’t blame any of the staff.
The owner definitely needs to do better at that price.
