Sweet and Salt Spot in Bakersfield is seriously one of the most underrated places in the city. Even though I’ve only tried their Vietnamese grilled pork sandwich and their Vietnamese coffee, that alone was enough to show me this place is a complete hidden gem that deserves way more attention.
The grilled pork sandwich was honestly one of the best bánh mì-style sandwiches I’ve ever had. The bread was perfectly toasted—crispy on the outside but still soft inside—and the fillings were so fresh and flavorful. The grilled pork was tender, juicy, and seasoned just right, with that slightly sweet, smoky taste that pairs perfectly with the crunch of the pickled vegetables. Every bite had the perfect balance of textures and flavors, and it didn’t feel heavy at all. It’s the kind of sandwich you finish and immediately think about ordering again.
Their Vietnamese coffee was just as impressive. Strong, bold, and sweet in that perfect Vietnamese way—it had the ideal mix of rich coffee flavor and creamy sweetness. It’s definitely the kind of drink that wakes you up and feels like a treat at the same time. Especially since Bakersfield lacks good coffee , not this spot!
Even with just these two items, I left wanting to try the whole menu. Sweet and Salt Spot is truly a hidden gem.

We were visiting from LA and stopped by Salt and Sweet Spot for a quick drink, but ended up staying for drinks and sandwiches that were absolutely amazing. Everything was made with fresh ingredients, the bread was outstanding, and the service was exceptional. We honestly haven’t experienced this level of food quality and hospitality in quite some time. Highly recommend this place if you’re a fan of truly fresh, thoughtfully prepared food.

Just some background, to let you know where my taste buds are coming from. I lived in Los Angeles my whole life and often was in Alhambra and Monterrey Park. It’s hard to find Bánh mì sandwiches in Bakersfield similar to the places in LA. This came up and decided to try it.
It’s a small place that can easily be overlooked. I ordered it online and picked out, really fast. The employees were very welcoming and polite. I picked up a a grilled chicken Bánh mì sandwich. My rating is based on the price. For $11 I got a sandwich, chips, and a Vietnamese coffee. Sandwich was full of veggies and meat( not salty) and coffee was delicious. Would definitely come again.

I’ve never been or eaten Vietnamese food before and I was excited to try it here. The cashier was so patient and helpful when I was asking a lot of questions. I got the #1 combo that came with a drink, sandwich, and chips for $10.99! I got the Vietnamese coffee and it was sweet without being sickly sweet. The sandwich was delicious filling without being heavy.
If you want good food that’s cheap, fast, delicious, and not gonna make you feel like crap afterwards. I highly recommend this place!

I was thrilled to see that I could get a Bahn mi sandwich near by. This is a new place and I was greeted with a friendly smile and a hello from the owners. I loved the excitement they shared speaking on what they service and where they are from. They had a house bahn mi special for $10.99 which included chips and a fruit tea. The sandwich was everything I hoped for! Fresh and tasty. Also had the kumquat tea, by owner recommendation and it was amazing as well. This is an amazing place and these people deserve some love. Try it out! It’s worth a visit. I know I’m going back soon.

Bahn mi. It’s a delicious sandwich. It is basically a sub with vegetables and meat BUT add in that flavorful sauce and it’s a new level.
VERY friendly and helpful, the food is very good, the price is WAY too good for this economy, and service was fast.

wow pork bahn mi sandwich was delicious and strawberry boba tea was delicious as well . excited to have a new sandwich place in town. employees were very friendly and helpful and a pleasure to visit this restaurant. I can’t wait to go back!!!!
