Salt & Stone came highly recommended by a friend, so we made reservations and drove up for a date night with high expectations. The wait staff was friendly, and our experience started off strong. The appetizers were excellent: the raw oysters were fresh and firm, the French onion soup was fantastic, and the duck confit was very good. The calamari was perfectly paired with a really tasty aioli, and the fresh bread was a highlight; warm, flavorful, and seemingly homemade. We loved the black salt served with the butter. Oddly, the bread that accompanied the duck was not great, but it didn’t detract much from the overall appetizer experience.
Unfortunately, the reason for the three-star rating comes down to the entrées and the service toward the end of the evening. By this point it was close to 9 p.m., so perhaps the staff was winding down. We ordered two filet mignons—one with scallops and one with lobster—both medium rare. Sadly, both steaks arrived overcooked and bland, closer to medium or well, with no real depth of flavor or sear. The mashed potatoes and vegetables were also underwhelming, even with the addition of truffle sauce. The lobster itself was fairly good and the portions were generous, but overall the dishes were disappointing enough that we didn’t finish our plates or take leftovers home.
Adding to this, we were unable to get a water refill for nearly the last hour we were seated. Our server was very pleasant at the beginning of the meal, but service noticeably dropped off as the night went on.
We truly wanted to love this place. If we ever return, it would be during a warm afternoon to sit on the patio and enjoy oysters, appetizers, and cocktails, those alone would have earned a five-star review. It’s an adorable restaurant and absolutely worth trying, but personally, I wouldn’t risk ordering another entrée here.

I just enjoyed a visit here for the first time. Such an amazing gem! All of the food was delicious. Highly recommend the duck leg confit, calamari, and steak tartar.

We enjoyed the wine and cocktails too. The wine was great quality and amazing value compared to some of the lists I see. It feels right given you’re literally surrounded by vineyards.

Lovely outdoor area and patio that’s dog friendly with a great dog park down the road. It’s fun for the whole family!

Service is also attentive and personable. I can’t wait to comeback.

We stopped here for lunch after a travel day. It was a delicious lunch! So many tasty options on the menu. And great cocktails!

We started with the hummus and the spicy prawns. Both were good. Loved the pickled onions on the hummus and the shrimp had nice heat. The bread they bring is nice and crusty and love the salt on the butter!

Everyone enjoyed their entrees. The patio is beautiful with a lily pad covered pond in the middle. And lots of umbrellas for shade. Service was good, not the speediest but friendly. I would definitely go back as many other dishes and drinks sounded great.

We loved our meal here. The Brussels sprouts were the best I ever had. My husband loved the crab cakes and the snapper. I had the truffle Mac and cheese and it was amazing. Highly recommend.

All around an incredible experience. If you enjoy oysters (or think you might) I HIGHLY recommend ordering those. If it’s a nice day, do yourself a favor and sit outback on their patio and enjoy the gorgeous views. The food is excellent, the staff are lovely; you won’t be disappointed.

We dined here last night for Thanksgiving dinner. We had a mixed experience. The butternut squash and French onion soups were spectacular. The turkey special was lackluster. The mashed potatoes and green beans were good, but the turkey was drier than a popcorn fart. We asked for additional gravy which couldn’t pull that turkey out of the Sahara desert. The seafood stew was overall okay. Goodness, there were SO many tomatoes it was a little ridiculous. I would have preferred a smaller dish with way less tomatoes and the same amount of seafood. The butterscotch bread pudding was moist but not very flavorful. We make bread pudding at home and would have at least doubled the amount of butterscotch. The flourless chocolate torte was delicious – definitely the highlight of the evening! Unfortunately we will not be back here anytime soon. We’ve dined here on separate occasions and had good meals, but this was disappointing.

Salt & Stone in Sonoma is a wonderful dining spot with a charming ambiance and delicious food. The seafood is fresh, and the menu offers a great variety of local flavors. Our server was great—his attentive and friendly service made the meal even more enjoyable. It has a Tesla charger that is a plus! Although it was taken. A must-visit for a fantastic dining experience in wine country!
