I really enjoyed the overall experience. The atmosphere was great, and the service was friendly and attentive. The ribs had an excellent flavor, I personally prefer them a little more tender, but the taste and the sauce were spot on. I also loved the potato salad, it was delicious and complemented the meal perfectly.

Without a doubt, the best part was dessert. The peach cobbler with ice cream was absolutely amazing, perfectly sweet and very well balanced. It was the highlight of the meal for me.

The only downside was that beer wasn’t available in the same area as the food. We had to get up and walk to the other barn to grab a beer and then come back to our table. I didn’t quite understand that concept. I even wanted to have another beer, but I didn’t want to stop eating and walk over there again just to grab one. I noticed several people sitting outside with coolers (and they weren’t the beers sold on-site). Next time, I’ll definitely bring my own, not because of the price, but simply for the convenience of being able to sit, eat, and enjoy a beer without having to interrupt the meal.

If you’re in Austin, Salt Lick BBQ is an absolute must. The BBQ here is phenomenal — truly melt-in-your-mouth good. The brisket was tender and flavorful, the pulled pork was perfectly done, and the sausages were superb. Every bite tasted like authentic Texas barbecue at its finest.

The indoor BBQ cook pit is awesome to see in action and really adds to the whole experience. The setup is rustic and charming, with outdoor picnic tables that give it a relaxed, homey feel. It feels like classic Texas.

There’s also a cute little store where you can grab some swag, which was a fun bonus. Just note that you purchase beer and wine in a separate building — but it’s all part of the experience.

The staff was attentive and helpful, the food came out quickly, and I really appreciated the many gluten-free options available.

Honestly, I would go back to Austin just to eat here again. Salt Lick is that good.

Our large group had a reservation, but because we had about 10 extra people join us at the last minute, we had to wait 30 minutes to get 4 big 8-person picnic tables close together. Food was wonderful and staff were friendly and quick. You can split your bill 4-ways per table. Salt Lick winery is adjacent, so you can order bottles of wine and beer for your table. Very enjoyable experience!

Mid to full swing on the pendulum. Brisket and sausage were overly greasy and fatty without exceptional taste. Ribs, on the other hand, were most without being greasy and packed with flavor without being too salty. Top 5 Rib in my experience. Pastor salad was
unusual to me and not interesting. It could be a local thing, though, and it didn’t taste bad. The cobbler combo is a must-have. Only my grandmother has provided better IMHO. I may go back to try it a-la-mode, but it’s outstanding on its own. The dining room is its not a great date location. Outside seating is ample and may suit that need. The small tasting room is more of a wine bar. Lay there seemed knowledgeable. All the staff was friendly and helpful.

This place is always a crowd pleaser. Family style is the way to go when ordering. Bring an appetite and get ready for the atmosphere that is quintessential Hill Country Texas. Stop by the famous BBQ pit. BYOB or purchase a bucket here. If wine is more your style they have their own label of great wines to try or buy. Be prepared for a long wait on weekends which most often have acoustic performers outside.

The Salt Lick gives a rustic and authentic Texas ambiance with so much beautiful scenery surrounding it. It has both indoor and outdoor seating options. They usually have live music on the patio and it is nice to sit outside when it’s not too hot. The food is 7/10 for me. It is tasty, but always warm/almost cold by the time I get it (my reason for the 4 stars). The cobbler is delicious, definitely recommend. Service is good, and there is usually a wait (especially on weekends). Otherwise, I do enjoy my experience there every time I visit.

First-time visitor to the original location. Very charming! The bbq at this location is better than other’s I’ve visited for some reason. Or it could have just been the atmosphere that made everything better!

Friendly staff, great beer, and wine selection. Love that it’s also byob.

It’s a great spot to hang out. I’ll definitely make the drive again on a weekend!

A chilly evening, group of 14 and a whole lotta appetite for the ever so gleaming reviews of the Ribs and Briskets I’ve heard so much about. Travelling through states, always heard Texans knew how to do a good BBQ and they dont mess around when it comes to Brisket or Ribs. Sadly the food didn’t take it on par with the online boasts and recommendations. Service was slow, despite having told them earlier about our group size still had to arrange tables ourselves. Atmosphere inside is nothing too much to notice and the only silver lining is the kind soul who played and sang in the chilly breeze outside for us all. The servers otherwise had a smile throughout however slow and untraceable they were. Would hope for a better experience next time when swinging by.

I cant believe weve never been!! Secret- get a drink at the cellars and order to go- We didnt do this but saw others come and go while we waited for our table. BUT the atmosphere was so great over by the cellar that our 45 minute wait flew by. Caden the server was great. Food was great- wish the pork ribs were a bit easier to come off the bone but the sauces and sides far outweighed the need to remove a star for food. Put the spicy sauce in your mac n cheese!!!
