Because we arrived around 4pm on a Saturday, it was pretty empty (only 2 other tables of diners), so we were greeted and seated quickly. My husband ordered a beer and they were out of what he wanted, but the bartender said he could make something similar with another beer and some citrus he had behind the bar. It was quite tasty!
After perusing the menu, we decided to try 3 appetizers and then go from there. We ordered the scallop crudo, mushroom tapas, and game liver mousse. Our food came out quickly and all the dishes were immediately appealing as they arrived.
The mushroom tapas, were yummy but very rich. It was served with toasted bread and it was great to eat this between some of the other, lighter dishes. It was a hearty dish and probably would be even more enjoyable on a cold day.
The scallop crudo had potential but it wasn’t our favorite appetizer. It was difficult to get a taste of everything together in one bite. But, when we were able to, this was quite delicious. Perhaps more thought in the size of the apple relish or a different cut on the scallops could help with this.
The game liver mousse…… OUT OF THIS WORLD!! my husband and I both agreed that this was one of the best bites of food we have ever put in our mouths. The game liver mousse was rich, but because it was an aerated mousse, it was perfectly balanced with the other ingredients. The cherry demi, pickled figs, micro greens, and basil oil complemented the mousse in such a thoughtful way. This is a dish we will both be thinking about for a long time!!
Our server was attentive throughout our dinner, and the 3 appetizers ended up being enough for us for dinner. We left full and happy with thoughts of game liver mousse dancing in our heads!!
Our group had multiple dishes including a seafood pasta, fettuccine, and the duck breast. My duck was very flavorful and perfectly seared on the skin side with a delicious sauce.
The pumpkin tiramisu had a nice flavor and was large enough for all to share.
Will definitely return. The atmosphere, food, drink, and especially the service were all first rate.
Perhaps my only change would be an espresso that arrived without sugar or a spoon, so drank without.
Highly recommend. A fine spot for dinner, happy hour or a business meal.
Service was exceptional and overall experience was fun! Upscale corporate vibe. The espresso martini was straight vodka.
The lobster gnocchi was essentially garlic butter soup with gnocchi floating in it, and only two tiny pieces of lobster. Worse, it tasted almost entirely of garlic butter and salt. There was no depth, no balance, no complexity to the flavor — just a flat, overpowering heaviness that made it genuinely unpleasant to eat. My girlfriend ordered the wagyu bucatini, and it had the exact same issue — more like a watery, soupy mess than an actual pasta dish. Even worse, some of the noodles were still hard, which is inexcusable at this price point.
We also tried the octopus, which did have good flavor, but for $23 the portion was tiny and the presentation looked like something you’d expect at a dive bar, not a supposedly upscale restaurant. Honestly, the most satisfying thing we had all night was the side salad, which says everything.
The service didn’t help matters. Our server seemed very inexperienced, struggled to open a bottle of wine, and there wasn’t even a proper chiller available. The food took an unusually long time to arrive, and the overall pace of service was slow and disorganized. To top it off, near the end of our meal a bus person came up carrying a large tub full of dirty dishes and cleared our table into it, which completely killed whatever atmosphere they were trying to create.
For this price, the overall experience was nowhere close to acceptable. I could go to The Loop and get significantly better food, better service, and spend far less. Salt and Flour is simply not worth the price of the food or drinks, and I would not recommend it.
Cheese cake was alright. I was not a fan of how I could taste the gas in the cheesecake (probably because they torched it). Caesar salad was good. I loved the fried anchovies.
