2 for atmosphere because it was very cold in there even with an electric heater.
Service was friendly and fast.
They only had enchiladas with mole sauce sweet or spicy Verde sauce. I prefer red sauce. Be nice if they had the red sauce option. I did like the beans and rice, and I’m not usually a fan of Spanish rice but this one was good.
Just be prepared if you are not a spicy food person the sauces (all of them) were spicy. I like spicy but others at our table couldn’t handle the less spicy options. The chicken nachos were tasty tho, chicken had lots of flavor. The guacamole just needed salt and it was alright as well, again too spicy for some at the table.
For me it was ok, I’d probably go back if someone wanted to go there, but not my first choice.

A great new find on my latest visit to Anchorage. Salsa Oaxaqueña is a welcoming and humble spot in the Spenard neighborhood that packs a punch with its authentic Oaxacan food. I had the enchiladas plate with spicy mole, shared a yummy chicken tamale, and enjoyed a champurrado (hot chocolate like drink) that warmed me up on a cold day. Service was very friendly and efficient. Prices are fair for large portions and I boxed up almost half of the enchiladas to take with me. I strongly recommend a visit and will be back next time I’m in Anchorage!

Never disappoints! So delicious, I always get the spicy mole con pollo and another dish to complement, today was the nachos. Authentic, makes homemade tortilla and nacho chips, and a huge selection of homemade salsas and hot sauces.

Edit: the first time I came here I ordered a large order of tamales, and they gave me two free of their ultra-local specialty which was tamales with mussels. It’s a local Oaxaca coastal specialty.

This was an amazing meal (asada tacos on fresh handmade corn tortillas). The red and green salsa were perfect… great on chips and a great addition to the already flavorful tacos. Fast friendly service… Worth every penny.

Visiting from Texas and this place was amazing!! My friend (who lives here) and she found this place cause we both love authentic Mexican food. Oaxaca is one of the towns we wanted to visit.

The place is nice, clean and not crowded. We got to choose where we sat. Immediately the server brought us some waters and the menu.

We ordered guacamole, chicken mole, oaxcanoia tacos, tamales and shrimp tacos. If you are not into spicy let them know and they will tone it down.

Everything was amazing. Honestly you cannot go wrong with anything on the menu. Freshly made tortillas, guacamole made to order. Flavors bursting on my pallet!!

10/10 I would recommend!! Oh and the hibiscus drink!!! Loved Loved!!

3900 plus miles from home. South that is. My wife and I in the need for Mexican food. We stumbled upon Salsa Oaxaquena. Great meal, Guacamole best I have ever had. Sopas de Pollo and Tacos de Lengue were tongue smacking delicious.

Stumbled across this by accident… and I’m glad I did. The most authentic Mexican food I’ve had in Alaska. Homemade tortillas and legit sour cream. I got the quesadilla and it might be one of the best I’ve ever had. The woman who took my order was very friendly too. They have my business!

It’s nice to finally have a Mexican restaurant that serves not just Carne Asada tacos but variety of different kinds.
The portions are massive and the server is super friendly.
They saw us with kids and immediately switched one of the TVS to cartoons to entertain them!

The tripe tacos was definitely different but in a good different kind of way.
The guacamole are made fresh in housez they even serve it to you in the traditional guacamole bowl too.

My husband loves the salsa station and the unlimited taco shells you can gran yourself!

Definitely will be going back there again.

Four people at our table. Two had tacos (chicken and Shrimp). Both were fantastic. Best I’ve had in Anchorage. Another had carne asada and loved it. Food was excellent. Service was a bit slow and we did not know they did not bring your check to the table so we waited a while at the end. Restaurant was a bit cold. Would go back on a warmer day though.
