I have reviewed a lot of pizza places. Some newer and some established. But Im telling you here and now that none of them have the sheer authentic spirit that Sal’s OIP has.

Now I decided to place an order here after a bad experience at another pizzeria over the weekend where I was charged $15.90 for a mere 3 slices of the blandest pizza imaginable.

But today at Sal’s I bought the small Sicilian pizza pie. These are true Sicilian style cuts, not the square kind that many offer.

And the heft, flavor and craftsmanship that Sal personally puts into crafting his pizza simply cannot be duplicated. Thus Sal’s is the real deal that you cannot get anywhere else locally.

And the prices are reasonable….not robbery!!

So right here and now, considering the sheer experience of Sal’s hands, his ability to manifest his culture in the form of flavor and the absolute realness of a Sal’s OIP pizza………

…….I am outright awarding Sal’s OIP pizza as the outright champion and best pizza in Altoona.

And it’s not even close.

We came in and tried the stromboli, and oh my goodness it was so good. I just wish i could get this back home in Alabama . The service was great and the place was clean. I have zero complaints. And will definitely be telling people about this place when I get back home.

Sal’s OIP is another Altoona exclusive restaurant, and Sal and his wife are legends in their own right. They’ve been running this business for over 25 years, and offer a hearty pizza with a chewy, fresh baked bread type of crust. There are other italian style sides like subs, strombolis, and spaghetti dinners, but sometimes a plain old pepperoni pizza is best. It usually closes for a month or so during the summer when they go on vacation, and it’s dinner only (opens at 4pm).

This has always been my favorite authentic Italian pizza spot! The sauce is so specially made with a dash of sweetness! The owner is amazing, too! It’s a whole vibe!!!

Brought our order home and it was completely wrong. I called down to ask for a new sub to be made because I understand mistakes happen. The person who answered the phone sat there and argued with me like I was lying. Then got extremely nasty that she had to correct my order. I will not be returning, I’ll go back to OIP on North 2nd where the treat there customers with respect.

Me and my sons love Sal’s! The white pizza and the Sicilian are our go to pretty often. Some of the best pizza around here if you ask me. Dining room is always nice to when we don’t carry out.

Favorite Italian food around this area. Love the salads and subs. Bring cash as they don’t take anything else.

Ordered a large pepperoni pie. It was decent. I can’t speak about the other menu items. But you figure in a pizzeria the pizza should be the flagship.

We ordered a pizza with half mushroom, half cheese and a cheese steak. The pizza was flavorless, completely void of any seasoning and the mushrooms were obviously canned. It was tough to bite through and chew and I couldn’t even make it through one slice. It honestly tasted like the pizza was made earlier in the day and reheated. I’m disappointed in the lack of quality but it was cheap, so I guess I got what I paid for. At least my husband enjoyed his sub. The other slices of pizza are going in the trash, where they belong. I wouldn’t even feed that to my pet rat

The most incredible Italian food around!!! ……. love his gnocchi (delicious sauce) and I was able to buy some of their salad dressing…..cannot describe how much I love it. He doesn’t charge what he should for the quality and quantity of what you get!!! Oh yes…and homemade bread cones with it too!! Wish he was open for lunch…
