I’m 74 years young and have bad knees and balance problems. As such, I typically use a cane for assistance. However, that becomes a real problem at Sal’s. The floors are clean but kept very slippery. The rubber tip on my cane just slides and becomes useless.
To me, the manner of cleanliness you use is A VERY REAL SAFETY HAZARD !!! The slippery floors !!! I can only imagine this condition creates an accident waiting to happen…. Just hope and pray it won’t be me !!!!
From the moment we walked in, the tone was set. We were greeted with zero friendliness—no smile, no welcome—just an overworked staff that looked irritated we even showed up. Yes, they were busy, but basic courtesy shouldn’t disappear because of that.
We were eventually seated, and our waitress seemed decent at first. She brought out chips while we ordered margaritas. One bite in and I realized the chips were stale, completely flavorless, and honestly should’ve never left the kitchen. Still, I tried to stay optimistic… until the drinks arrived.
The margaritas were an absolute joke. I genuinely don’t think there was a drop of tequila in them. They tasted like someone mixed lemonade with water, threw in some ice, and then half-heartedly rubbed a few grains of salt on the rim. I’ve had better drinks from vending machines.
By the end of the visit, it was clear: this place is nowhere near the standard the reviews made it out to be. In fact, it was one of the most disappointing dining experiences I’ve had in a long time.
This was my first visit—and without question, my last.
Although, depending on the time and day, there has been occasions where we’ve waited for a table for 2, in my opinion it was worth it to get to enjoy the fine dishes offered here. Compared to other restaurants where you also have to wait for a table regardless, at least we get the best quality food and service here, so the wait isn’t bad.
As for the service, all the staff that we’ve had the pleasure of being assisted by, have been very friendly and made sure that every visit was a great one. Making sure we also have enough chips and salsa, and always topping off our drinks! As for the food, it’s always seasoned very well and full of delicious flavor that I find other places don’t compare to. It’s simple dishes, but not to be underestimated.
I’d like to thank the staff and chefs for always taking care of us and we highly recommend Sal’s for any occasion with friends, family, and significant others.
The dish I recommend the most is the combination plate! It’s the best value for what you get, where you can mix and match what your items are to get a variety of flavors out of every visit. Although, me personally, I usually just get 2-3 enchiladas while my partner sticks to 2-3 tacos!
Overall, Sal’s Mexican Restaurant in Fresno is a great location to visit for great food and great service, even if there are certain days and times where the busyness of the place creates a bit of a wait. In my opinion, it just shows how many people are willing to wait for just a taste of their delicious food! Will definitely be back soon!
Special shout out to our server, Percilla (I hope I spelled it right), for taking care of us tonight. She offered us fantastic service, was very kind, and took really good care of us dining in!
Also try their Original Combo or the prawn taco & enchilada dinner…both excellent!
