We wanted a hole in the wall place. Locals were just hanging out, drinking coffee and enjoying the crisp fall day. The sandwiches are just like your mom would make you and large enough for two people. It was the perfect spot!

Wonderful lunch at Sal’s. Recommend steak and cheese sub with peppers. Atmosphere was great with lots of conversation

Older lady was very nice but place is a mess and dirty and the food was not good at all. Process Kraft cheese on our sub, tasteless and stale bread. Could do better at home.

Absolutely awful human beings. Anna is a saint amongst scum. Too bad she raised white hot garbage. Kids that smoke indoors, horribly kept apartments. Grandkids that flash guns to act tough. This building should be condemned as I lived with mold and appliances that never worked. This lunch shop is a joke, I wouldn’t trust anything in this building to not give you food poisoning. Eat at own risk!!

The lady behind the counter was super sweet and we were happy to support a small business.

I can see why the place would get a bad rap due to how it looks and seems. But the lady was as wonderful as they come and clearly takes care into making the hot food from scratch. Would recommend the meatball sub as she makes them and the sauce everyday.

We were hot & tired after walking around The Freedom Trail…& Sal’s was just what we needed. So glad that we got off the beaten path & ducked down this side street. My husband got a meatball sub & I just got a turkey/cheese sandwich. We each got a can of soda…that were ice cold! There was a lady behind the little counter fixing the food & who I presume was her grown daughter that was popping in & out. And there was a guy outside on the street…who was talking about the Red Sox with people…who thanked us for coming as we left. Our kind of place!!

The negative reviews on here are as dense as they come haha. Me and friends found this nice little hole in the wall while looking for any where to eat after the celtics parade that didnt have a line down the street lol. I thought it was closed due to its outer view but i noticed this blonde hair tatted guy walk in and convinced my friends to check it out. Man was it a god send given we were starving. The owner and her mother have excellent customer service and the guy that walked in happened to be her son who was helping out. I got a steak and cheese and my friends got cheeseburgers and a grilled cheese at a solid price as idk anywhere in boston you can get a cheese steak for 10 bucks and burgers for 6 dollars. The whole family was so nice and the set up looked makeshift but felt so kosher. They take cash as usual and have phone to tap for credit cards. Definitely recommend if you need something quick, easy, and affordable especially if other businesses are packed to the brim. Given its at the tip of the north end your not too far from some delicious bakeries and pizza shops if your in the mood for slice instead. This place like alot of the north end have been around forever and give that piece of a staple boston history and made my visit that much better after having a blast celebrating our champions win ☘️

Come to this place for authenticity, historical value, and good service.
I came to visit Boston for a few days and before then I compiled a list of restaurants I wanted to go visit. Unfortunately, things didn’t go how I wanted them to, so on my last day in Boston I decided to go out with my mom to see what I’d stumble into. My mom pointed this place out to me and we decided to eat here.
The restaurant was out of supplies, but Anna made do with what she had and she treated us as if we were longtime friends. My mom and I greatly enjoyed the time we spent with Anna and being able to hear from a longtime Boston resident. I’m sure that there are better restaurants out there, but Sal’s Lunch offers what others don’t.

Amazing hole in the wall spot. Foods awesome, and the staff is fun. It’s clearly a family spot and if that’s the vibe you’re looking for it’s perfect.
