My experience here was extremely disappointing and upsetting. We were asked to leave solely because we had a legitimate service animal, despite clearly explaining that the dog is a medical service animal and providing documentation.
The bartender explicitly stated that he “didn’t care if we were even blind” and refused us service anyway. This was not only unprofessional, but felt openly discriminatory toward people with disabilities. There was no issue with the dog’s behavior—it was calm, controlled, and doing its job.
Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), service animals are legally allowed in businesses, and staff are not permitted to deny access simply because they do not want dogs. Being dismissed in such a blunt and disrespectful way was humiliating.
This incident will be reported to the ADA, and I strongly hope management takes this seriously and properly educates their staff on disability rights so this does not happen to anyone else.

My wife’s and I favorite spot in all Laguna, we’ve been to all the bars, taverns n this saloon by far is THEE BEST…every year we make it a must stop spot…..I’m a photographer at heart and this classic saloon is AWSOME, the coziness, ceiling n decor, flooring, masonry and the patina bar. Nothing else comes close.

Friendly staff at a cozy little quirky bar. Try the Po-po shot and Pine-O cocktail. Unfortunately the toilet was out of order the night we were there so that makes it difficult to stay longer at a bar. Would definitely go back next time I’m in town.

Really quaint little bar in a historic building. I would go there just for the vibes. Very small and mostly standing room. Might not be my favorite on a busy night. The bartenders were super friendly!

I know my group (4 people) isn’t the only one to experience poor service at The Saloon. The doorman was weird and couldn’t check our IDs like a normal person. He approached my group like we had fake IDs and was offended when we didn’t laugh at his jokes. The 2 female bartenders were unwelcoming. They acted like they were too busy to serve us (there were only 5 other customers in there and they already had their drinks). We asked bartender #1 for a round of a specialty shot and listed the ingredients (only 3) and she was annoyed that we asked her to do her job. After taking our shot we waited for 5 minutes while bartender #1 was vaping and scrolling on her phone. We then asked for another specialty shot (only 2 ingredients) and bartender #2 said they can’t make them even though I pointed to the ingredients on the shelf. Both bartenders gave me a nasty look and stared at me. They didn’t suggest any other alternatives until I asked them what they suggested we should drink instead. The tension in the bar was nothing I’ve experienced before. Not sure why they still have their jobs.

Bartenders are long-time Locals who can usually answer all of your questions about our town. Step in for a lively conversation and some good cheer.

Love the Saloon. Standing room only (for the most part) which I enjoy. Strong drinks, and a good atmosphere.. Be nice or go to Newport!

These people discriminate against people with disabilities who need service dogs. The bartender decided to kick us out and tell us she doesn’t want to serve us because of my service dog even though I provided all documentation for my need and my dog. I will be reporting them to the ADA asap. Do not even go here.

My husband and I stumbled upon the Saloon on NYE. The bartender was very friendly and attentive despite it being a busy night. The drinks were good, the crowd was pleasant and my personal favorite thing about this place was that it didn’t stink like a mixture of different hard liquors and mold (or whatever bars usually smell like). There is a nice breeze that flows into the room. My guess is that good cleaning practices and a well ventilated space is what keeps it smelling fresh. We had a great time.
