I recently had a wonderful dining experience at Salkaara, and the food was absolutely outstanding.

I highly recommend the Nadan Chicken Curry, which was rich, flavourful, and perfectly spiced. The Sea Bass was beautifully cooked and incredibly fresh, while the Lamb Naan was soft, aromatic, and a perfect complement to the main dishes.

To finish, we had the Salkaara Mithai Platter for dessert — truly the highlight of the meal. It was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious.

A fantastic place for anyone who appreciates authentic flavours and quality food. Highly recommended.

Dining at Salkaara Restaurant was a delightful experience. The ambiance is warm and inviting, creating the perfect setting for a relaxed meal. The food was exceptional — rich in flavor, beautifully presented, and clearly prepared with fresh, high-quality ingredients.

The staff were friendly, attentive, and made us feel truly welcomed. Especially the manager Sibi is a very generous and customer – friendly person. Every dish we tried reflected authentic taste and careful preparation. Whether you’re visiting with family or friends, Salkaara Restaurant is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates great food and excellent service.

Highly recommended, and we look forward to dining here again!

Fantastic. There was some craft at work in this kitchen. I mean, how do you produce a lamb samosa with a time delay as to when the spices appear and begin playing with your taste buds? Such variety of flavours, not your all-too-frequent experience in an Indian restaurant where the sauce colour may be different between dishes but the taste difference is indiscernable. The £36 taster menu was replete with tasty courses, in fact, not one was bland and all were distinct. The stand-out dish? Hard to isolate one. We began with the lightest, non-greasy poppadoms we’ve had (dips didn’t have much pazazz thinking about it). The starters were excellent; chicken tikka, lamb samosa and onion pakora. Dead heat. The palate cleansing sorbet was bursting with discernable fruitiness. Main dishes; Syrian beef, dhabha chicken and a black lentil dal were all really good. Preference was in that order. The dark colour of the Syrian beef was a little disconcerting but the depth of flavour, with just the right tingle factor, set this one apart. Basmati rice was fluffy and was accompanied by Thoran. Never seen this dish before. Cabbage, carrot and coconut, with niys of other veg cut small, infused by curry leaves was a delightful alternative to rice. Naan bread basket was well filled with light and tasty peshwari and chilli naans that had the right balance of soft and crispy fringes. An excellent meal was sweetly wrapped up with a chocolate samosa on bruleed banana. Brilliant. Such innovation characterised this excellent meal. Not just churning out the routinely expected stuff. There were so many flavoursome surprises throughout. The staff we so pleasant, repeatedly checking in on their offer many at the start of extra portions if needed. We only had the one. We were well stuffed.

Last weekend we went to Salkaara in Cardiff for some authentic Indian food.

This hidden gem has an incredible menu, outstanding food and service.

We started with freshly made poppadoms with mint sauce, beetroot and chutney.

For mains I had the tandoori salmon, which was melt in the mouth delicious. I have a nut allergy and this was dealt with really well.

Next was the tandoori chicken which was bursting with flavour and perfectly cooked.

We then had the saag khumb which was leaf spinach with mushroom sauteed in butter with chillis and ginger, with coconut rice and a peshwari naan.

Finally we had the prawn moilee, a light and delicious south Indian curry packed with juicy prawns and coconut milk.

Salkaara specialise in Keralan/ Southern Indian food and their menu has something for everyone. This is the best Indian food I’ve had and it comes highly recommended.

Thanks for having us!

Bit of a shambolic start… Didn’t have our table ready and not convinced they had our booking.

Finally seated 8 of us on a 6 person table, which was a squeeze – particularly when you might have a curry, a rice and/or naan and your plate… And some plates are oversized (so take up more space than necessary). Also while the table was cleaned, the floor wasn’t and was covered in food dropped by the kids previously.

The service was great, attentive and friendly.

Food was really tasty. Our group generally felt that the spice levels listed on the menu were higher than the real levels.

Wish they’d have let me box my own leftovers, as I wouldn’t have dammed the naan on top of the curry and have it get soggy.

Food and service very good, couldn’t fault it. Only negative comment is the mens hand-dryer was not working. Also all restaurants, especially Indian, should have hot flannels at the end but that could just be me.

Just two minutes on the train from Radyr and a short walk down Station Road, to try an Indian meal at Salkaara. Something different. And we were very impressed. Great dishes and flavours, rich sauces, all carefully prepared and nicely presented. Very attentive service too.

We had a takeaway from here, it was delicious! We ordered online and it was ready in about 20 minutes. We had the chicken chettinad, paneer five spice, pilau rice, peshwari naan, and poppadoms. The dips that come with the poppadoms were lovely and included one we’d not tried before which was nice. The rest of the food was delicious, I couldn’t recommend the paneer enough. The chettinad was quite aromatic/perfumey so if you don’t like that sort of thing, maybe not for you. The service was quick and friendly and I’d not hesitate to go back.

I visited last weekend, and the restaurant was clean, the staff was friendly, and the food tasted fresh and flavorful. The curries were rich, the naan was soft, and everything was served hot. The service is so good and made the whole experience even better. I will be going back for sure!
