Great hibachi meal, and friendly service. Came on a Thursday evening and it was nice and quiet.

“Would you like your change back?” is the absolute rudest thing to ask a customer. I always tip well, but getting change back when I pay with cash should be the expectation, especially when I hand you a $50 for a $25 total. I am also pretty sure I did not receive the correct change, but I was not going to make a fuss about it. He never came back to check on our table and we got zero water refills. Why would that deserve a $25 tip? Needless to say, I will not be back. The food is never anything to rave about, the table behind me was talking about how it hurt their stomaches instantly, and the bar is so unclean and unpleasant to look at and that’s what directed me away from ordering drinks. Better off going into Omaha and spending money there.

First and foremost, a big thank you to the staff of Sakura Sushi & Hibachi. I received a message and had to leave immediately about 5 minutes after being sat down and having my appetizer delivered to my table. I asked if they could switch my order to go, and they did without hesitation. I purchased the Lion King, Sakura, and Spicy Santana Rolls. They were all incredible, and I’d highly recommend them if you’re looking for specialty rolls! Next time I’m in the area, I’ll be back! Hopefully, next time, I’ll be able to enjoy the lovely atmosphere more as well. The night I went, there were people at the Hibachi Grill entertaining people. It was fun to watch and listen to.

I decided to come here on my birthday, after being away for several years. I took a seat at the sushi bar, and started a 2 1/2 hr marathon that was UTTERLY FANTASTIC.

The service from the sushi chefs was PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONABLE. I like to have the sushi chef choose how the meal is to go, instead of ordering off the menu. My pictures don’t do the taste justice, but you get the idea. I never think about money when I go here, but I had 14 dishes and spent $138. WELL WORTH IT. Now for the normal people prices were between 5.95 to 15.95.

I found the overall atmosphere acceptable, but could use updating
decor with additional lighting and minimum repairs to furniture. So I had to ding them for that.

Now service. The waiter was off his game. He was pleasant, but he would forget about refilling my tea, or checking to see how I was doing. But between the sushi chef and the (I think) part owner who were exceptional, I did have to ding them on points overall.

In a nut shell, the overall experience is worth it, the price is reasonable, the product is as fresh as you can get in the Midwest, the service and personality of staff is very good.

Hope this review helps you in making your sushi experience top notch.

We decided to stop here for dinner on Black Friday during our cross country road trip. The restaurant is located in the corner of a shopping center in council bluffs.

The restaurant looks small at first glance but is actually quite large inside. Upon entering they ask if you are there for regular dining or hibachi. Regular dining is in front where there are tables and booths while hibachi is done in the back. We chose regular dining as the theatrics of the hibachi might’ve been a bit too noisy for our baby. Seems like the vibe of the hibachi area was very lively and fun from what I overheard though!

We ordered the soft shell crab appetizer, love boat sushi for 2, shrimp fried rice, and seafood udon. Overall, the food was good. Being Japanese American and from California where good Asian food is everywhere, I was pleasantly surprised because while not the best, everything was better than I expected. The soft shell crab appetizer is 2 crabs cut in half (4 pieces) fried in a katsu style with katsu sauce and was good. Love boat sushi did not come in an actual boat (to my disappointment, lol) but there was significant effort put into the presentation. All of the items were decent. Wasabi was neon green colored but surprisingly packed a bit of a punch whereas most fake wasabi tends to be quite weak. Shrimp fried rice was pretty good with a garlic flavor and came with some sort of mayo based sauce on the side (we tried it and it wasn’t bad but didn’t eat it with our rice). Seafood udon was tasty and came with shrimp, scallops, fish cakes, and imitation crab. Not sure why they added the imitation crab as it brought the dish down and there’s already sufficient seafood. Overall the dish was tasty but a bit too salty. The entrees come with either a side of soup or salad. Since we ordered a lot, we were able to get 2 soups and 2 salads. Was expecting miso soup but it was a clear broth with some mushrooms, green onion, and those fried French onions. Not sure if they usually put those in or if they were just left over from thanksgiving green bean casserole lol. I’ll just say that it was interesting. Ginger salad dressing was good.

Service was decent except at the end the waiter kept asking us if we wanted boxes when we were still eating which gave the impression that they were trying to get us out of there. I get it if you are about to close but there was still time left before closing and people were still getting seated so we weren’t holding them up. Noticed a good amount of baby high chairs and booster seats but no baby changing table in the restroom. Just FYI if you have a baby like I do.

took a 18% tip without permission from multiple of my parties guests as well and charged me double from what the menu price was for my fried rice. $22 but the menu said $11. when the lady was asked by a friend on why she just took the tip she ignored her and rolled her eyes. the food itself wasn’t traditional at all just buttery and greasy unfortunately i had high expectations but the chef was so so sweet also when i asked for a refill he purposely put water did ask what i har just assumed im guessing probably to get over on me AGAIN. 2/10 and thats just because i have a kind heart.

we were sat at a table with strangers, we were squished , there was barley room to eat bc they try to put as many ppl as possible at a table. The chicken and steak had no seasoning at all , the chicken was not cooked enough it tasted very gamey and lastly they put a 18% tip regardless of how may ppl eat. I was alone and still charged this crazy gratuity when the service was less than stellar. He didn’t even do the usual entertainment we used to get when we came. The manager was rude as hell when we expressed all of this to her. Probably wont be back soon. The soup and ginger salad were great though.
