The sushi menu felt a little long. This made it a little difficult to decide on an order. However, there also appears to be something for everyone. They also have a bar in the middle of the restaurant for those only seeking a casual drink.
Came here for Valentine’s Day – called in advance and had a 6:30 reservation. After being seated, we didn’t receive waters for at least 5 minutes. Then, after we ordered drinks and an appetizer, it took 15 minutes for the drinks to arrive and another 15 minutes for the tiny portion of calamari to arrive. I asked the server to give us plates for the calamari, and he never brought them, so I flagged down a different server who brought them over – one of the plates was very dirty, but I was starving at this point so I just used the plate.
Once our sushi rolls finally arrived, they were okay. They were far worse quality than MOMO Sushi, and even worse quality than the budget restaurant, Wakame. Additionally, Sakura does not have a “nice” dining environment at all, the service was atrocious, and the prices are about double what you’ll pay at Wakame. This place is only good if you want to spend over $100 for the “hospital food” equivalent of sushi.
Overall, we were incredibly disappointed with Sakura. Having worked in restaurants myself, it is inexcusable that the managers allowed so many tables to be seated when there were not enough servers or cooks to keep up with the volume of customers. Additionally, when I worked as a server, it was ingrained in me to make sure the plates were clean before I gave them to customers. Sakura cut corners with understaffing and undertraining as they wanted to get as much business as they could on the holiday. I understand that this was their business decision, but I will absolutely not return here.
If you are considering coming here for a holiday or busy night, I highly recommend going literally anywhere else. It is not worth the expensive bill for a sub-par dining experience, when you could go to countless other places for a better dinner. I am quite shocked that this restaurant has over 4 stars on Google, but perhaps the quality has just dropped over time.
Some rarer items available like Uni and Fatty Salmon. Call ahead if you plan on ordering these as they only had one order of Uni left.
The staff is friendly and the service was great. They also have a full bar, so don’t be afraid to make requests. I rather enjoyed my Whiskey Sour (with an egg white by request). We will be coming back again and again.
Service is also incredible! I had my birthday here last year and they even brought out a balloon to help celebrate. Very inviting and comfortable atmosphere.
I also have to mention the story of the founder, Miyoko Omori. So resilient and filled with love for her community. Congratulations on 35 years of Sakura! ❤️
It’s also not a child-friendly place, which made our visit even more uncomfortable.
The cleaning needs improvement.
The fish was not fresh.
Unfortunately, we won’t be returning.
