This visit was my first time dining at Sakura Japanese Steak and Seafood House, and it was also my first hibachi-table experience. I went for my birthday, and someone graciously treated me.

I will say this upfront: the chef’s cooking ability and stamina over open flames were impressive . The presentation was solid, and he remained friendly throughout the show.

That said, the experience overall fell short for me.

From the moment we arrived, there was a noticeable lack of warmth. The employees we encountered at the hostess stand and the register did not make eye contact or acknowledge guests as we exited. There was no “thank you,” “come again,” or ANY form of farewell. That was very disrespectful to me as a patron. Regardless of cultural background, basic hospitality and acknowledgment matter, especially when guests are spending their hard-earned money in your establishment.

The food portions were generous, particularly the rice and onions , but everything was heavily fried in oil and butter, and sauces. My salmon did not appear to be fully cooked, TO ME. I was also concerned about food safety, as the same spatulas were used for all raw proteins in the orders: steak, shrimp, chicken, chicken livers, scallops, lobster, and (my) salmon – without separation, which, for me, raised questions about cross-contamination.

Another challenge was the communal seating. Now, I understand this is part of the hibachi concept, but my experience was negatively impacted by other diners. A child at our table played videos at FULL volume without headphones, coughed openly, and moved around CONSTANTLY, while her parent maintained a conversation on her own phone for ALL of the evening. There was no intervention, and this made it difficult to enjoy the show or meal. Also, I felt ‘pressured’ to leave immediately after the food was prepared. Everyone at the table took thwir food to go, but I thought the goal was to sit there and eat. Because the hibachi experience prepares one item at a time (rice, then onions/veggies/ then protein) some people eat them individually- as he adds them to the plate I waited for ALL of my meal to be prepared before digging in (which is what I thought you were supposed to do), but by then my dinner mate was done eating and ready to go! Everyone else was leaving too. Thus, there was no real ‘dining’ experience for me.

A time was NOT had.

In summary: the chef’s performance was enjoyable, and the show itself was well done, but the lack of hospitality, concerns about food preparation, heavy use of oil, and overall atmosphere left me unimpressed. Unfortunately, it wasn’t an experience I’d be eager to repeat.

Went here for my son’s birthday, nothing special about this place at all, lacked entertainment value and ambiance, definitely not worth the cost. Our chef was not personable at all, and didn’t try to get to know us as valued customers, just cooked the food and left, didn’t even know we were there to celebrate my son’s birthday because he never asked. The food was good, but the cleanliness of the place was also concerning as there was a black liquid dripping down from above where I was sitting that got on my plate (luckily before the meal so I could wipe it off and pull my plate back closer to me) and in one of my sauce dishes which I didn’t use. I believe it may have been coming from the grease trap. So I expected a lot better, and have had a lot better experience at other Japanese steakhouses.

The ambiance is top-notch. From the lighting to the music, everything is so well thought out. It made our dinner feel more like a relaxing experience than just a meal.

The sushi is some of the best I have had throughout the USA. I am generally there on Mon, Tues, or Wed. Presentation is fabulous with full flavor. Amazing.
The steak is also wonderful. Very flavorful and cooked just like I like it.
Staff is exceptional in my experience visiting this location
Reasonable price for the quantity and quality of the food I receive .
Well worth stopping for a nice meal.

Please do not order take out here…you will not get your money’s worth!! They didn’t include my appetizer (2 shrimp), they didn’t give me the extra zucchini that I paid for, you can’t get the soup that’s included unless you bring your own container…my rice was mushy, the shrimp and chicken was not even a full serving-

To make matters worse I called to speak with someone working there and she hung up in my face bc they open back up at 4:30…l was NOT even calling to order a thing from you!! and I will never order a thing again!

The bathroom smells funny and it’s wet in there and very rusty! So close to calling the health department atp to have this mess inspected

I’m disputing the charges with my bank since you wanna be funny and hang up in my face…

I would say that when we were here, we did not take full advantage of the experience they were offering. We were somewhat in a time crunch and decide to not do the live hibachi chef cooking our meal. It was school night for our daughter and we needed to move along. I ordered the ribeye and chicken and though it tasted great, there wasn’t anything special with it. But I’m pretty sure if it was on the hibachi table the whole experience would have been different. I also ordered a rainbow roll and that was awesome as it had generous meat – unlike the Japanese restaurants around the area. So with sushi rolls they are on point as far as the price point goes. Maybe next time if we comeback we’ll do the hibachi and I’m confident it will be different and better.

New Year’s Eve, at 5:30… we were seated right away. My only complaint is our table was packed in like sardines. But, as always, presentation and food were awesome! I even caught the shrimp!!

The whole experience was just bad. Thankfully this was the first in many that it was bad. Some of my party waited 25 minutes for their drinks. The cook was not great. My son asked for no veggies and they were dumped on his rice. He order just chicken and got 5 pieces, while the cook passed more to others. I ordered the steak and chicken. I asked for my steak to be medium and it was rare. The cook took my plate after I touched the meat and ate off my plate and proceeded to put my steak back on the grill with everyone else’s food. He mixed my steak with liver (gross biting into that). The chicken kept touching the shrimp. Others at the table didn’t get the food they ordered. Someone at the table ordered the ribeye and it was given to someone in my party. Then came the check and they added a service fee of 15% to our check because we had a party of 4. We waited almost 20 minutes for our waitress to bring our check. I think it will definitely be a while before we go back there again.

Interesting. The food is good, it’s just…muted? I’m not sure how to put it. The chef put yum yum sauce into the rice as he was frying it, and I’ve never seen that before. Then in the serving dish, I tasted their yum yum sauce and it was akin to a thin mayonnaise. I guess at that point it made sense since he used it as a fat for frying.

Still, the fried rice was really good, so no qualms about that. The steak was good too, but the vegetables could have been seasoned after cooking.

I will say though that their ginger sauce on the side was the best rendition I’ve tasted so far.

I’d recommend it. I know this isn’t a glowing review, but not all restaurants can be three-star Michelin stores. You and your friends/family/date will have a good time.

The wait is never too long. The food is freshly prepared in front of you. They have great sushi and rolls. The food is always good. The main issue is they have is the menu is the same it has alwyas been. No new combos, no new food to choose from. Our chef was very boring and there was no entertainment value. Ordered a drink and asked the waiter 3 times he just smiled and gave me a head nod and ok. All the food was done at way different times and was bland. The chef used the same spatula on raw and cooked food and rice. The bathrooms are very old and dirty looking. Corrosion on the pipes and sink running all the time. This place has been on a slow decline for a while. The only thing different was the price increase on the menu. The food is good, but don’t look for new items. You get the same stuff for all the years they have been here. I would give them 5 out of 10 stars.
