I’m glad we made a reservation at Sakura. The place was packed when we arrived, which is usually a good sign. The food confirmed that. The sushi was some of the best I’ve had in Indianapolis, the freshness was apparent by the textures, and the miso soup was excellent. The restaurant was clean, the prices were reasonable, and the staff was friendly and attentive. Sakura fills up quickly, so it helps to plan ahead, but it’s worth it. I’m already looking forward to going back.

A cute little Japanese restaurant. The lady who attended our table is so lovely. She told us to not order too much but we just can’t hold the urge to try everything on the menu! The food is great! High quality sashimi and the food portion was generous too.

Authentic Japanese food in Indiana is rare unless you make it yourself. This place is authentic. I was craving katsudon since my Japan trip and this was one of the only places that not only makes it but has all the other Japanese beer and foods I craved but gave up on finding. Would highly recommend. The wait is worth it…but I would suggest calling a reservation ahead.

LOVE this space. Beware— there may be a wait on a weekend. I came around 7pm ish and there was a 10 min wait. The people who work here are so sweet! I got the udon and it felt so warm and cozy— good for a cold day. Their salad with ginger dressing is SO GOOD. If you’re not a fan of ginger, don’t fret. It’s not super gingery but full of umami! Great vibes here and such a cute spot

Favorite place for sushi in Indy! The staff is so friendly and the shushing is always high quality and perfect. Try the holiday roll, Hoosier roll, soft shell crab roll, and yellow tuna nigiri.

The sushi is wonderful the service was great, and the price was perfect. 20 year anniversary, wife wasn’t fond of the udon ( a little fishy tasting) but just hanging with me was enough to get her through lol.

So yummy! The miso butter salmon appetizer was really good, so was everything else. Really interesting options. Friendly staff. Generous with their rice. Fair prices. Love it. 🙂

Seriously the best you’ll probably find in indiana, my girlfriend and I try to make it a couple times a year, the best udon noodles ive ever had, and just all around incredible food, that its not 5 stars is a ridiculous, make sure to make reservations, they are packed fulllllll like every night. Come a little early parking fills quickly but ive never had trouble parking close. The food truly has perfect balance and taste, smokey meat flavors delicious hearty noodles, perfect spice blends, absolutely fresh as can be fish, and excellent drink selections, from beer to wine and sake, and the enviroment is cozy and homey, with plenty of space between tables, so its not crowded. We found it by accident and it was the best accident.

The classic and original Japanese restaurant where you find real Japanese food that you’ll find in Japan, as opposed to Americanized Japanese food. Great value on lunch menu too.

Don’t let the exterior weird you out. Sakura is definitely one of those undercover gems on Indy’s north side. I’ve driven by it a lot but never stopped in. I got to do so recently.

Walked in at around 5:45 on a Friday and they were a little busy but we got a table. Our waitress was SUPER friendly and attentive to our table. We started with the Gyoza and the Spicy Ika Rings (calamari basically) as an appetizer. All of that was fantastic!

As my entree, I got the Chicken Katsu Don. Now, I did notice a lot of reviews complaining of slow service. However, it only took about 25 minutes for all our food to arrive. And overall, the food was fantastic! The chicken was tender and tasty, the eggs were good, though I will say they did put a bit too much rice in the bowl for me to handle.

We then got the Fried Ice Cream as dessert which was also very delicious.

Overall, this was a great experience! If you’re looking for a popular Japanese spot in Indy, Sakura is definitely a winner! I’ll be back.
