The ingredients are fresh, the service is great, and I really love the dining environment too I often bring friends here, and they’re all 100% satisfied.

I’ve had a lot of Japanese food in Sonoma and across the Bay Area, but places that deliver this level of consistent quality are few and far between. This restaurant is the kind of spot where you think you know your sushi and your izakaya—then they quietly serve something that reminds you what “mastery of the basics” really looks like.

The ingredients are so fresh they might as well have swum over to say hi. The knife work is clean and precise, the seasoning calibrated like it was measured with a ruler. Every dish arrives looking good, smelling even better, and tasting exactly as it should—leaving you with zero room to nitpick.

What’s even more impressive is the owner’s decade-plus commitment to doing things the right way. In an era where everyone’s chasing the next gimmick or “innovation,” he’s chosen instead to refine one thing until it’s perfect. That kind of craftsmanship sounds romantic, but in practice it’s harder than unagi on a busy night.

Put simply: this isn’t the type of place that relies on hype to get you in the door. It’s the type you finish eating at, then quietly add to your personal “lifelong list of Japanese restaurants you’ll keep coming back to.” If you’re in the Bay Area and craving a Japanese meal that won’t let you down, this is it—no fanfare, just understated excellence.

We had dinner here on a Sunday night. The food was fine, but the service was painfully slow. We finally got out after 1.5 hours – we packed the last dish that came to go, and ordered Uber Eats to the hotel to finish eating. We got there at 5:15pm and our kids got hangry and tired while we were waiting, so just plan accordingly if you’re going.

Lovely Japanese restaurant. My Dad and I enjoyed great sushi, soups and dessert. Nice prices and mellow atmosphere inside. Peaceful outdoor seating area as well. Free easy parking out front.

Outstanding sushi, fresh, and huge nagiri portions. Absolutely first rate. We had the volcano roll, tropical roll, chrunchy tuna roll, and salmon nagiri and it was all succulent. The only downside was they were out of the octopus the night we went.

Amazing food! I love Japanese food and have tried about all the places around here. This is one of my favorite restaurants! I wanted to post more photos on here, but when the food comes, I forget to take photos and just wolf it all down!

It was a dark and stormy night, so there weren’t very many customers which worked out nicely. A small, simple space, courteous staff and absolutely delicious food at reasonable prices. Hamachi jalapeno carpaccio, gyoza, sashimi and my favorite, the crunchy spicy tuna roll which had a very light coating of tempura batter and just enough spice to make it interesting while still tasting the subtle flavors. Just a light dinner, but perfect.

Sakio has steadily gotten better over the years. They are great little local spot to get super yummy sushi. Sometimes Frank the owner is a one-man show, but somehow he always gets it done with good service and great food.

9pm Friday night Sushi craving in Healdsburg, satisfied completely. The Marilyn Monroe with shrimp atempura, king Crab and Scallops is Bomb, the grasshopper roll for the wife was amazing also, as was the California roll. No complaints, even next day left overs were still amazing. Didn’t try any of the special flavors like uni and such, but if that’s your thing can’t see why they would be any less delicious.

Sake selection is authentic and legit. Una-ju is my favorite food and Sake’O served me one of the best I have enjoyed across many continents, cities, and venues.
