This review is not about the food. The food was typical Sake and fine. This is about management and what I witnessed.
Around 9pm, on a cold, dark, rainy night, I pulled into the drive-thru and saw a young Black female employee standing outside in the rain taking orders even though there is a speaker box at the drive-thru. She was out there alone.
That did not sit right with me at all. This is not my first time at Sake, but it will be my last, I refuse to spend money on an establishment that does not value the individuals that work for them.
Even if the speaker was temporarily down (which did not appear to be the case), there is no reason a young girl should be standing outside by herself in the dark and rain at that hour. I have seen before, if there are employees outside taking orders, it is more than one person. It raises serious safety concerns.
I also have to be honest, whether intentional or not, the optics of having a young Black girl outside in those conditions while others remained inside came across poorly and racial. It felt uncomfortable to witness. At minimum, it reflects questionable judgment and a lack of care for employee safety and dignity.
Management should seriously reconsider this practice. Employees , especially young employees, deserve safe and respectful working conditions.

The food here is usually decent but this time it was terrible. They burnt some of my steak black crisp and a lot of my broccoli . They also left off my carrots ( the best thing on the plate). I went through the drive through on my way to work . So once I noticed my food was messed up once I got to work. The manager said If I come back right then( which i couldn’t) she could give me carrots ( nothing about the burnt meat /vegetables). If i come another day with receipt she could give me 10% off my next order. Oh and never say you don’t want carrots give me extra broccoli as they suggest, not only do you not get extra broccoli you barely get what you were already supposed to get. In the chicken plate below notice the small amount of broccoli it was supposed to be extra broccoli no carrots. And if you look closely at the steak plate you can see the ends of the steak burnt to a crisp and the broccoli.

Ate the most perfect spring rolls i have ever ate in my entire life they literally were perfect… Perfect temperature, perfect crispy shell, juicy and flavorful inside and accented perfectly with the sauce. Actually everything was fresh and prepared to perfection. I would say the food here rivals that of many fine restaurants I’ve been to in the past don’t let the foam plates mislead you! Sake was on point tonight. Great job Team Sake!

In my previous review, I said the food wasn’t the issue, that my concern was management and seeing a young Black female employee standing outside alone in the cold, dark rain at 9pm taking drive-thru orders.
I was wrong.
The food is an issue too.
I got home and opened my bag only to realize my order was completely incorrect. So not only was the management decision I witnessed questionable, but they also couldn’t get a basic order right.
At this point, it’s not just about bad optics, it’s about poor oversight, poor organization, and lack of accountability. If you’re going to have staff outside in unsafe conditions, the least you can do is make sure orders are accurate.
This was disappointing on every level.

I went last night and got the teriyaki steak entree and an order of spring rolls. It was really good. I’m not sure if they changed their steak recently but it has been so tender the last couple of times I’ve got it. I had to wait a little bit in the drive through, but that is normal and well worth it.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Exceptional Service!
I had such a great experience at Sake Express in Gastonia. The floor waiter truly went above and beyond to make sure all were taken care of. From greeting us with a warm smile to checking on us throughout the meal without being intrusive, the service was thoughtful and genuine. You can tell he really cares about the customers and takes pride in his work.
The food was fresh, flavorful, and came out quickly, but what made our visit special was the hospitality. It’s rare to find service this attentive and kind. We will definitely be coming back!
Highly recommend!

Sake is good but Leaving this review solely on AARON. The staff was super busy and attentive but of all of them, he was the only one that stopped to acknowledge the man behind me. A few looked but he literally stopped what he was doing , took the guys orders, the whole nine. Great customer service sir, will return simply due to his hospitality. Keep up the good work

Me and my family ordered teriyaki Steak and while we normally love Sake, this time was a huge fail. Our Steak did not have the signature teriyaki glaze on it. It was bland with no seasoning, sauce or flavor.

This place is a good deal, a LOT of food for the cost. Food was cooked well and flavorful and was pretty fast even on a busy weeknight. The BEST part about this restaurant tho is the guy in there bringing stuff to your table and getting drinks. He is ON POINT! Honestly he needs to be waiting tables at a swanky restaurant because that guy is the most attentive and kind and energetic “waiter” I’ve seen in a really long time. It’s service you’d expect somewhere more expensive and he honestly made eating there feel leveled up. I wish I knew his name cuz he was awesome and needs cred for his service
