Highly recommend if you’re craving delicious Mediterranean food done right. I’ll definitely be coming back! Absolutely loved this Mediterranean grill! The food was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with high-quality ingredients. The grilled meats were perfectly seasoned and juicy, the hummus was smooth and rich, —exactly how it should be. Portions were generous without being overwhelming, and everything tasted authentic and well-balanced.

Owner is very friendly. Food is phenomenal. I like the open space concept too, you can see them preparing your food and grab a table meanwhile. Service was fast, not more than 15 minute wait. Everything is fresh and tastes homemade. This place is definitely a favorite now.

Found my new favorite “fast food”, so yummy. I got a bowl with half rice/half salad, chicken, and topped it with jalapeño, cabbage, pickled turnips, olives and feta cheese and chose the pomegranate molasses sauce (after allowing me to try multiple sauces) and got a piece of baklava for dessert. Everything was amazing. They also carry Pepsi zero which is a major plus. The lady who took my order was very friendly and super helpful. She even gave me a free falafel sample!
Update: I hadnt tried the baklava at time of original post. OMG, that was the best baklava I’ve ever had. I’m glad I was home when eating it because I looked like an addict of some sort, trying to get every last crumb off the container ♀️

First time here and the food was fantastic! The food here is the MOST AUTHENTIC Mediterranean food in the CR/IC area I’ve had! Àlan the owner was so great! He is the owner and chef and his talent, love and passion for the food definitely shows through! We will definitely be back! Thank you so much for the wonderful experience!

Had a great experience at Saj Grill! The staff were very friednly. I absolutely loved how they prepared the vegan bowl; fresh, flavorful, and perfectly done. The tahini sauce was amazing and paired perfectly with the falafel, just as the staff recommended. Definitely coming back!

So yummy! Had the chicken schwarma platter & vegetarian platter everything was de.licious. If you like falafel you def need to come, it’s fresh and fabulous and the pita bread & dolma are the cook/owner is so kind and makes sure everything is perfect. Make sure you leave with at least once piece of baklava, you won’t regret it! We’ll definitely be back ❤️ Oh my gosh, almost forgot to mention the hummus, new fave for sure!

The food is all made from scratch, and the flavors are incredible! (Plus if you’re gluten free they have great options and a dedicated fryer).
We ordered the gyro platter and a build a bowl, with a side of hummus and falafel. So fresh and flavorful, and well put together! The owner came by and chatted with us and he is super fun! I would eat here regularly if we lived closer. I will recommend to anyone in the area!

Amazing service, we got free Lentil soup samples when we walked in (tasted amazing). Food came within reasonable time. The gyro meat is amazing! The baklava and Knafeh were also must-haves!

I ordered the Vegetarian Platter with extra dolmas (because I’m obsessed with them), and it was one of the best meals I’ve had in long time. Everything was fresh, perfectly seasoned, and bursting with authentic flavor—the falafel was crispy on the outside and fluffy inside, the hummus was silky smooth, and those dolmas? Heaven. I could eat them every day.
What truly made the visit unforgettable was the owner’s incredible hospitality. He welcomed us like family, checked on us multiple times, and went out of his way to make sure we were happy. You don’t just get amazing food here—you leave feeling genuinely cared for.
Saj Grill is a hidden gem. If you’re anywhere near Coralville/Iowa City, do yourself a favor and go. I’m already planning my next visit (and yes, I’ll be getting extra dolmas again). Thank you for an amazing dinner!

I am not from the Iowa City area, and rarely have the opportunity to indulge in Middle Eastern cuisine, so I was very excited to try Saj Grill at their Coralville location.
I had the beef kofte platter, and my son had the Saj Arabi. Both were excellent! I can highly recommend this establishment to the public.
Update from December 2025. I stopped here again. It was still fantastic. Please come here and eat.
