I stopped by Saj AlReef in Sterling Heights and really enjoyed it. This place serves Iraqi food, and everything we ordered was very flavorful and tasted fresh. The curry fish was excellent and came in a huge portion honestly enough to feed three or four people.
The servings in general are very large, and the food came out pretty quickly. They also offer free tea, which was a really nice touch and a great way to finish the meal. Overall, a great spot if you’re looking for authentic Iraqi food with generous portions and fresh flavors.

My friend Steve highly recommended this place. As soon I got out of my car, I could smell the delicious chicken! Sam took excellent care of my friend and I at our visit. I had a few questions about the menu and he was able to give delicious recommendations. The OJ/carrot juice mix was perfect and the chicken is seasoned well, Chef’s kiss!
Look forward to coming back here with my son due to excellent service and quality food!

Very busy spot on the weekend, especially on the Sunday afternoon we went. It does get kinda loud in here especially with how the seats are arranged where the tables are super close to each other (can be overstimulating). Food was decent and tasted fresh. Portions are huge, especially the appetizers and accompaniments to the entree. Ordered the combo for 3 and there were 5 of us and we still had leftovers to take with us. Service was a miss for us particularly due to not getting water as often as we needed, waiting almost 45 min for our entree when other tables who sat after us were nearly done with their meal, and not being able to flag down a waiter or our waiter to get water; with how busy they are, it would be helpful to have a button or something to be able to ask your waiter to come to the table when you need them. Decor was nice and felt “fancy”.
They also ask you to leave a review for them (personally I don’t like when places do that). I did not make this review because they asked, but because I enjoy trying new places and sharing my experience.

I ordered takeout from this place because I saw it was a 4.7 out of thousands of reviews which is a very impressive rating!
Honestly, not very happy. I am middle eastern so I can say I do know a thing or two about how these items SHOULD taste.
I got the beef kabob shawarma. I am very disappointed in this shawarma. The meat has no seasoning, if it does I can’t taste it. Kabob is supposed to be very flavourful. I taste only meat, I have inspected the meat, I don’t see any seasoning either or smell it.
I hope you guys take this one seriously, I have been eating yogurt and cucumber (Lebanese style) since I was born. I have eaten it almost every single day since birth. This is very very bland to say the least. I can’t even taste salt. It just tastes like plain yogurt and chunky cucumbers. Very disappointed in this.
The pickled veggies are good.
The rice chicken soup is good but very thick and goupy. Like they blended the rice and it’s super thick. But honestly this was very good.
I ordered takeout so I can’t speak on the service or atmosphere. But very disappointed.

Our server Mariam was absolutely spectacular. She made our experience great. Everything is really good, hot, and fresh. However, the star of the show here is the Iraqi Kabob. Best item, next time I’m coming back just getting that.

Upon entering, it was very busy on Saturday night and the volume was quite loud but I won’t fault them for that. Service was confusing overall didn’t really know who our server was and they didn’t check in very often. After about 10-15 min we got our bottled water and placed our order. Mixed appetizer was nice. Overall the food tasted good although our mixed grill was STONE COLD which was very disappointing but we were starving and didn’t bother to send back. Overall average but had higher expectations given the high reviews word of mouth so just middle of the road for us.
