We came here with high expectations due to loving other restaurants under the maenam umbrella but were unfortunately disappointed.

We tried the tom yum soup, wings, and tiger beef. The soup and beef were delicious, but for $23 the portion size of soup was very underwhelming. It was unclear whether the beef was meant to be served hot or not, it came cold. At $15 for four chicken wings, you would have hoped they were at least big and meaty but they were dry, lacked substance, and weren’t served with enough sauce. Either the prices or portions really need to be reconsidered. We are two small eaters, and left very hungry.

The sticky rice was served in a plastic bag that was confusing to open and generally unpleasant to eat out of. I get that they are going for a fun street food vibe, but that’s really the worst part of street food that you don’t want in a restaurant.

The beef was served with a hair in it, and was thankfully comped without any question. The server did not check on us at all throughout the meal or take away plates as we ate, so we didn’t have the chance to raise the issue until the bill was delivered.

Overall, the meal was fine but for the price we expected more and I felt we could have had better food, service and value going to a hole-in-the-wall Thai place. The most redeeming thing is the pleasant atmosphere and decor.

We came for dinner on a Friday and there weren’t many people as it was still early in the night.

The som tam was really well balanced. Had a seafoody flavour to it that I liked. The portions as pretty big as well and not too spicy.

The beef carpaccio has a very powerful kick to it. The meat was a bit chewy but that was fine. I liked the balance of the mint and the onions. It gave it a freshness. The cabbage is necessary in this dish and so is the cucumber.

The Tom yum gong is where it went downhill. It was way too salty and I know it’s meant to be had with rice but it was still too salty. I wished it was more sour. There was a lot of mushroom in this dish along with chicken.

The Thai tea was pretty good. Had the chatrumae flavour to it. Not too sweet.

The service was good not overly attentive. Everything came out really fast.

Overall not bad but I wouldn’t purposely come here just for the Thai food.

I really want to like this place but everything was so salty, especially the pad thai. The papaya salad had raw crab which wasn’t my favourite but its my fault for not reading the menu more carefully. The quartet beef was so so. Very tender, just on the salty side too. The laab fried rice was a great dish. The rice was very pillowy but the chicken was really bland. As for their pad thai with salted egg and oyster mushroom, I had to drink water while eating each bite. Otherwise, ultra rich and saucy. The non alcoholic mango was fantastic.

A really good Thai restaurant on Davie Street. We came for lunch as we haven’t been downtown for awhile and wanted to try this place.

The service was great as they were friendly, welcoming and provided good recommendations.

We ordered the their pad thai special, Laab fried rice, and their beef quartet. Our favorite was the lamb fried rice as it was so fluffy and flavorful. I joked with my wife that it was like eating a cloud as it was that fluffy.

The beef quartet was also very tender, even the tripe was soft. Usually tripe is a little chewy but the ones here wasn’t, which was good.

Their pad thai special was salted egg with oyster mushrooms. It was a little too salty for us as we don’t usually put too much salt when we cook. We know, it’s a salted egg dish so it would be a little salty. For others, it may be just the right amount.

Sainam is a gem of a restaurant in the heart of the West End on Davie St near Bute. The food is centred on Isaan cuisine (northeast Thailand) but they have recently broadened the menu to include items such as beef salad and pad Thai.
Chef Poon makes a truly wonderful Som Tum Thai — you can’t find better in Thailand. The Wichian chicken is fabulously tender and flavourful and I doubt you can find tastier, fresher gai lan in all of Vancouver. The renovation to the dining room has given it a comfortable upscale bistro feel. Service is attentive, fast, polite, and friendly.
Sainam is a top-notch addition to the restaurant scene in the West End.

One of the best and most authentic Thai restaurant in Vancouver that is worth the price! I’m Thai and this place brings me back home. Every dish is perfect but my most favourites have to be Tom Saep, Som Tum Sua, and Crying Tiger. Came back here 3 times already and definitely will continue to do so.

Was excited to try this new restaurant by Maenam, , they have such a bad customer service though, ordered a take out and they said to come back after 30 minutes, I came back after more than 30 minutes and they said to wait again and I realized that they haven’t actually started my order, I asked again and they said that I am now on the #3 after almost an hour I got my order the nam tok beef quartet was the one I want to try but really disappointed with the tendon was very chewy, they could have cook a bit more to be tender, Laab fried rice with chicken , the chicken was dry and overcooked, the pad thai was the only one I can say is good. Also ,I asked for a water while waiting and she gave me from the tap water when there’s a pitcher of cold water just right beside her at the bar. Will not come back again and wouldn’t recommend to friends either.

Everything was soooo gooooood!
Omg it has been a while we had good dining experience, our server(couldn’t catch her name, with pink hair ) was very attentive and nice, giving us great recommendations!
All the dishes were on point and honestly the price was placed really reasonable and affordable! My Mango Thai ginger went really well with all food!
Strongly recommend the crispy pork belly and the beef tartare, so glad we have nice restaurants in the neighbours now! Can’t wait to go back 🙂 Probably will go a lot even for takeouts too!

Great experience and friendliest staff! We went in a group of three and everything was amazing. There are a couple of Thai staff members who came and talked to us and provided great service. We also got a free dessert as well!
