Saigon Ơi is a lively, bustling spot that feels perfect on a rainy day or honestly any day. The restaurant sits on a curved corner with lots of windows, so it gets great natural light during the day, paired with warm interior lighting that keeps things cozy. It can get noisy when packed since tables are close together, but you can still hold a conversation.

We ordered the Bánh Canh Cua and the weekend special Bún Riêu. Both were beautifully presented, served boiling hot in clay pots, which really elevated the experience. This might be the best presentation of Vietnamese food I have seen in Sacramento. The Bún Riêu was outstanding and one of the best I have had outside of Vietnam. The crab udon tasted just like the versions in Saigon. Portions look modest but are very satisfying.

What really stood out was the authenticity. You can see real crab meat, snails, and quality ingredients throughout. It is clear they do not cut corners, which I truly appreciate as someone familiar with Vietnamese cuisine.

Service was attentive and thoughtful. Our server gave good recommendations, checked in at the right time, and immediately brought a high chair when we arrived with a toddler. Tables were cleaned quickly between guests. The dining area was clean, though the bathroom could use a bit more attention.

Very family friendly, but be mindful that dishes are served extremely hot and staff are constantly moving hot food through the dining room. A small step stool in the restroom would be a great touch for kids.

Overall, a great spot for brunch or lunch with family or friends. If you are looking for authentic southern Vietnamese flavors in Sacramento, this place is a must. I would absolutely return. Go early if you want to avoid the weekend wait.

A cozy place to hang out with friends and family. All the foods were really delicious with a reasonable price. It’s quite a limited option for a Vietnamese restaurant but I then they have time to focus on the quality of the foods. Definitely coming back for more.

Review for Saigon Oi

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Saigon Oi, and I must say, it was an outstanding experience from start to finish! The service was exceptional; our server was attentive and friendly, ensuring we felt welcomed throughout our visit.

The food came out incredibly fast, and it was served hot and bursting with flavor. I ordered the Bun Mam, and it was absolutely delicious—perfectly seasoned and satisfying. If you’re planning a visit, I highly recommend coming right when they open, as the restaurant can get quite packed, especially on weekends.

Seating is ample, which is a plus, but keep in mind that parking can be a bit of a challenge since they share a plaza with several other businesses. Despite this minor inconvenience, the food and service are well worth it!

I brought a client from San Jose, known for its amazing food scene, and she was genuinely impressed by the quality and taste of the dishes at Saigon Oi. It’s definitely a hidden gem that deserves attention, especially on weekends when they offer some unique social dishes.

Overall, I highly recommend Saigon Oi to anyone in the area or visiting from out of town. They have definitely earned a 5-star rating from me!

Serious food safety concern: I found black mold in my dish and experienced a stomachache the following day. This wasn’t the first time—I’ve had similar issues after eating here before but gave them the benefit of the doubt. Finding mold confirms a serious lack of cleanliness and raises concerns about overall food safety standards.

While the restaurant removed the item from our bill, I would have much preferred to pay for a clean, safe meal. This experience was unacceptable and should be a wake-up call for better hygiene and quality control.

5/5 spot in south sac, menu changes each week. But no worries it ALWAYS has something good on there. I got the crab udon, feels like there is always something still in the pot after finding so many treasures inside already

A restaurant that gets better with each visit – I miss it if I don’t go for a week! Before discovering this place, my knowledge of Vietnamese cuisine was limited to Pho and spring rolls. But my first visit opened the door to a whole new culinary world!
The BANHBÁNH MÌ CHÁO is an absolute must-order! Sizzling beef cubes cook on the residual heat of the hot plate, paired with freshly baked Vietnamese baguette (the best bread I’ve had in America). Tear off a piece of the crispy-outside, soft-inside bread, dip it in the stewed tomato sauce on the hot plate, and enjoy it with the meatballs and sunny-side-up egg. It preserves the bread’s airy texture while perfectly incorporating French culinary elements, instantly transporting you to the streets of Vietnam.
Their other dishes are equally impressive! The BÁNH CANH CUA features chewy, tender udon noodles in a flavorful crab soup topped with crispy fried garlic chips – perfect for instantly warming you up on cold days.

Some helpful tips:
1. Weekend visitors should try their weekend specials (last time it was beef noodles)!
Come early as they open at 5:00 PM
Closed every Wednesday
2. No food for vegetarians except the bread!
3. Expect a wait during peak hours – join the waitlist on Yelp in advance!
4. While waiting, explore the plaza across the street with Happy Lemon and Maiko matcha ice cream
5. For longer waits, consider trying Asian Pearl in the adjacent plaza – an authentic Cantonese restaurant with excellent value and traditional dim sum served from carts!

We had the Salted Egg Fried Rice, Crab Meat Udon Soup, and Shaken Beaf (Ree Rice)

All dishes were excellent in terms of taste, with a great presentation. It came out very quickly too, in less than ten minutes.

Our server was very friendly to us, and willing to accommodate our requests.

I’d come back any time I’m in Sacramento!

I came here for lunch with a co-worker on a Friday (8/23/24) afternoon. Never been here before so my first.

The dining area of Saigon Oi is neat, well put together, and clean. We were able to get a table without having to wait. The menu is pretty simple with about 20 items or so to choose from.

Our server was friendly and hospitable. Our food arrived within 15 minutes upon ordering hot from the kitchen. The presentation of the dishes look great!

I had ordered the half chicken and it turned out very good. It was cooked perfectly and the skin was crispy to the bite. It was very tasty. The side of rice was drier than I had expected and was okay. We had also ordered the Vietnamese pancakes that also turned out very good. We also got orders of Vietnamese coffee that was also very delicious. Portions were very

Our total for lunch came out to be about $75 with tax and tip which included two coffees, two meals, and an appetizer.

Here’s how Saigon Oi scored:

Service 5/5. Food 4.5/5. Atmosphere 5/5. Value to price ratio 4/5. Overall experience 4.5/5.

My experience at Saigon Oi was good. Nearly everything was perfect for a lunch outing on a Friday afternoon. Most everything turned out fine except for my rice which was ok. Portion size were acceptable and will leave you feeling full. We had leftovers to take home. However, the price is higher than expected for a lunch outing; So expect to pay more for lunch here than compared to other options in the same center.

We came here with friends and it’s our first time. We pretty much ordered everything on the menu because we wanted to try everything. I personally really like the Banh Mi Chao which came with bread and the beef is tender, and the sauce with the bread is yummy. Another item is sticky rice that I really recommend. However, it makes me so full though. We like all the items we ordered. Just be aware that this restaurant closes at 5pm.
