First weekend in Sarasota and this restaurant embodied “Welcome to Sarasota!” At the same time it transported us to a different place with the decor. Love it. So romantic, highly recommend for birthdays, anniversaries, or impress her !
Highly recommend the Thai Bouillabaisse and the Lamb chops melted in your mouth like butter. The whiskey flights were interesting. Recommend trying the Lemon Poppy martini and the Plum gin martini with yuzu. Delicious Thank you Veronika with the K! You were a pleasure to meet.

If you’re looking for a classy, refined vibe in Sarasota, Sage nails it. The setting is stunning and the service is some of the best in the city (highly recommend asking for Stephen).

The Hits: The crab cakes with lemon-truffle aioli and the gnocchi with lobster bolognese (don’t miss this).

The Misses: The ginger-miso grilled radicchio and purple cabbage salad was forgettable, and the shochu-miso salmon was unfortunately overcooked and lacked the depth I was expecting.

Overall a solid experience, but compared to the heavy hitters like Dry Dock, Veronica, or Indigenous, the kitchen consistency isn’t quite there yet. Still worth a visit for the atmosphere alone!

Sage has been a secret for me except I don’t know why. What a wonderful dining. experience. They have the WHOLE package covered. From their bar on the roof top, to their restaurant on the main floor. Service was excellent:) Their menu has innovative selections. Every dish we enjoyed was presented in an art form and was equally delicious. Hopefully the pics to the dishes justice. We will be back sooner than later.

**** December 5, 2024 – Two for my wife’ Birthday Dinner.

I have reviewed over 60 restaurants in the Sarasota City and area since April of 2021. We have belonged to the Florida Studio Theater for most of that time and every night we attend we usually go to dinner beforehand. I park near the theaters and walk to the restaurant of the night. We dine and walk to the theater. I walk near or past this restaurant for ALL of these years! We have had it starred but for some reason we just never went here?

The music from the rooftop caught my ear last week so we decided to drive TO Sarasota (no theater 54 miles roundtrip from our Venice home) just for this dining experience for my wife xx birthday at her request.

I parked in my usual free spot so I don’t get another $375 towing charge from the City and its predatory towing companies. Not a fan of valet parking when there should be an easy parking option…. and there was – in Sarasota City you just have to be careful!

The exterior is delightful The entrance and lobby also inviting! We went to the rooftop bar to wait for our reserved seat…..we were purposefully early even with the almost hour drive in season. Live music was entertaining and prompt bar service was very nice! My wife got a Tito’s vodka cosmo. The drink, in a plastic martini cup was about 50% full if a 6 oz or even 8 oz cup it was woefully small and based on the coloring maybe a shot of vodka? The only reason for the whining is because it was $16? In Manhattan you might get soaked for $15 to $18 but it is a “full figured” glass? I got a club soda with a sprits of cranberry for $6???? Bubble water and gun sugar for the cost of a beer? Ok onward….

Went down to the lobby to get in queue for our now on time reservation table. Another duo playing and singing in the lobby were a wonderful distraction and VERY good.

Our server Steven S was TOP RATE! gregarious, conversational, and super well humored. Guiding and not afraid to make his opinion known on the food items AND probing enough to know I was not finding something exactly what I wanted. Zone defense table coverage with fast direct kitchen delivery, and bus service clearing table and sweeping out utensils and my favorite metric the never under half full water glass!!!!

For a first course I got the Pear Salad ***** and it was VERY fresh and loaded with a variety or greens and seeds, and veggies and a light wonderful dressing. My wife got the Fried Green Tomatoes **** and she REALLY enjoyed, I had a taste and it was smooth a delicious.

For the 2nd/main course my wife went for the Short Rib **** which was beautifully cooked and the display with tri-color peppers was a stunning dish to see when it was presented!! (pictures somewhere worth hunting for) the beef was super nicely garnished and rubbed. I went for the (eliminate the seafood) “Veggie” Bouillabaisse ***** that Steven has recommended instead of the cold cous cous vegan style dish I was going to settle on. MAJOR great suggestion on Steven’s part!!! This was a truly AWESOME dish with perfectly grilled egg plant and vegetable garnish and a perfectly (for me) spicey curry sauce and some black beluga lentils that I was saddened when I had eaten them all!!! REALLY flavorful and a tremendous medley of textures and flavors/spices.

In summary, fantastic service! and a very good arsenal of food items and food groups to pick from very well prepared and presented.

So why not 5 stars? Well because the ROI and economics were “lower” and frankly there are numerous great restaurants with equal or better food items and just as amazing service for ~ $40 to $50 per person w/o adult beverages instead of the $56 to $65 we spent and then throw in the additional second $16 Cosmo and you basically compound a 20 to 25% tip on there and we escaped for just dinner for two at $183.90. ($91 / person?)

We celebrated my wife’s Birthday Dinner there and it did not disappoint. Our server, Marley, was very nice, knowledgeable, and attentive. The atmosphere & decor are beautiful. The food was absolutely delicious. You must try the Zucchini Flower goat cheese. It was truly exquisite! Wonderful experience and looking forward to coming back.

Always a special place. The ambiance is quiet and sophisticated. The unique history of the building adds to the experience. The menu is seasonal and always includes plenty of options for everyone. You can’t go wrong with a single thing on the menu. If you have any questions, get the server’s opinion – they’re extremely knowledgeable and will help you navigate your options. The portions are large enough to share around and try. The cocktails and mocktails are beyond impressive. If you get a chance, you must stop on the roof for one before or after your meal. Also, I’m not a huge dessert fan, but it’s a must here… They are undeniable masterpieces!

Our experience here was nothing short of incredible. We went with another couple for a dinner and were amazed at how wonderful the waitstaff was. Tim the server and the rest of the staff pulled out all the stops to make sure we had an awesome experience and meal.

Tim’s recommendations for pre-dinner drinks, appetizers, wine, and the meal were spot on and perfectly paired. His personality, attentiveness, and overall demeanor was excellent.

We would 100% recommend anyone to go here for a nice evening.

Beautiful building and lovely, warm atmosphere. Just a gorgeous place inside. Food was quite good, although some dishes felt a bit unseasoned. Reason for lower review is that the staff felt quite cold and at times perhaps a bit rude, unfortunately. I felt that our table was kind and tried our best to be easy dinner guests. The staff, however, seemed just overall unhappy.

I dined here with my parents and thoroughly enjoyed everything. our server, Marley, informed us that the menu had just been changed, as it is a seasonal menu and was enthusiastic about the options. As a starting cocktail I tried the Queen’s Coupe – Empress 1908 gin, watermelon, basil, lavender, chareau, citric acid, & basil “air”. It was absolutely lovely. For starters we all shared the Vidalia Onion Tart (very tasty, but the pastry didn’t taste super fresh), the herbed goat cheese zucchini flowers (delicious), and the best – Pink Garlic Croquettes with Ramp Pesto & Crispy Shallots. The croquettes were hot and crispy, with a soft and flavorful inside with the perfect hint of spice. These were so good, but I wish more than 3 came on the plate – so we got 2 more orders to go at the end of the meal! For our mains, my father got the seabass with mango peppers red onion and oven roasted yucca. It was quite a small piece of fish – but my father raved about it. He did say the yucca underneath was a bit dry. I chose the honey ginger chicken with indonesian fried rice, peppers and cucumbers and I was super happy with the combination of flavors – it is a VERY well thought out dish. My mother is a vegetarian – and although there was an option on the menu, it didn’t quite speak to her. The chef was kind enough to make a simple tagliatelle with a scampi sauce and tomatoes. She also was happy with her choice. The desserts really topped this meal off. The strawberry dessert was tasty, but I recommend the Island Mango Tango – coconut mousse with white wine compressed mango, passion fruit glee, and madagascan vanilla ice cream. It was top notch and the presentations were lovely.

This entire meal was very enjoyable, especially paired with the bottle of red wine from Banfi we chose. However, 2 “small” details really put a damper on the dining experience. We were still in the middle of our desserts – literally spoon in mouth, dish not even close to being finished – with the bill was placed on our table. We did not ask for it, it was not super late, and it was weird to have it given to us while we were still eating. What if we wanted after dinner cocktails? The second – and I feel I should have called attention to this but my mother insisted we didnt – is that they charged us the full price for the tagliatelle dish with lobster bolognese on the menu ($42!) rather than giving any price adjustment for just tagliatelle and scampi. Now, I understand making food accommodations can be frustrating for the chef, kitchen, and wait staff – but the food cost for the dish my mother received versus the one listed on the menu with fish has a VERY clear difference. I myself own a restaurant and I always encourage customers to voice their concerns if there is an issue with the bill. My parents were just a bit embarrassed so we said nothing. However, I feel like this is an error on the part of the waitstaff who rang up the order. That price adjustment should have been done when the order was sent, or if there was no price adjustment that should have been communicated to set our expectations.

Regardless, this is a place I would recommend to friends and I will happily return to.

Such a great experience all around! The food here is so creative, flavorful, and beautifully presented, each dish is an experience in itself! The eggplant gazpacho was a refreshing and surprise favorite! The grouper was also brilliantly prepared, perfectly cooked and explosion of flavor. Incredible service and friendly staff. Highly recommend for any occasion
