Stood at the counter waiting for couple of minutes but no one came out to acknowledge me until I rang the bell on the counter. I had some questions about the menu but no one was available for another couple of minutes. I was the only one in the restaurant until I placed my order. I was met with laughter when I asked about waakye. Like I did not know what I was talking about. Was told the food will be ready in 5 to 10 minutes. Waited longer than that. Zero engagement when I paid for the meal. I decided to eat a few bites my vehicle. Stew was not hot. Food was warm. All pepper. Very disappointed that I drove from Stafford to Dumfries for bad service and food I could have prepared at home. Treat all your customers the same regardless of whether you think they speak the dilect or not. Money is green! Y’all just lost a customer!!

Being a mystery reviewer and an African at the same time, I have noticed our own people are our own fall downs. From Rahama to Hajara to Safari to Aburi, 90% of the negative reviews are from African’s. Let’s give a simple scenario, you called to order wakye, order is taking, now you are asking me when it will be ready knowing you are 30mins away and wakye, jollof and Fried Rice is ready on an order.I have been in the restaurant answered a call for an order and 3hrs later, it was still not picked up, and this customer ordered things that are ordered to cook, like bake Tilapia, fried yam, boiled yam, kelewele, some soup s they want certain types of fish and meat, can you imagine, you are an African ordering baked Tilapia and when they give you an hour to pick up, you are mad saying that’s going take too long. My sister, in my African accent, how long does it take you to bake Tilapia at home?
Am sorry I have a long story, but have you seen and heard what they do for the community. They feed our children twice a year for free, not to mention their portions. Support your fellow sisters and brothers. If you don’t feel like baking your own fish and frying your own yam, expect to wait a bit cause we all know certain meals are not good cold. Just excited patience just like you do with every other American restaurant.

If I could give zero stars, I would. The customer service here is absolutely unacceptable. The bald-headed gentleman working the counter was completely unprofessional he was dismissive and seemed irritated by customers simply asking about their orders.

To make things worse, the food didn’t even match what was advertised. Items listed on the menu were missing or replaced without explanation, and when I asked about it, I got attitude instead of answers. That’s not how you treat paying customers.

I ended up leaving because of how poor the customer service was, and I will never go back. For a place that calls itself a restaurant, you’d expect at least basic courtesy and honesty about what’s being served. Instead, I left disappointed, disrespected, and feeling like customer satisfaction means nothing here. Safari African Restaurant LLC seriously needs to retrain their staff and live up to the quality they claim to offer.

I came here one day with some friends. I was from out of town and visiting them for a few days. I did some research, and this place kept on coming up as one of the best spots in town. I don’t have a lot of African experience, so I was instantly intrigued. After a morning of exploring the Prince William Forest, we came here for a good lunch.

As a guy who’s not well versed in the cuisine, I asked for advice, and I was lead in the right direction. I can’t seem to find the exact menu item, but I know it the main focal point was that jollof rice. Man, the flavors in that rice were very new to me, and very delicious. Lots of good heat, but not spicy at all. You gotta try it.

Also on my place was some sort of meat, some sort of delicious fish on the bone, a nice hard boiled egg, and some sweet plantains. Along with a small salad. Good meat, good sauce. Love eating meat off the bone, adds so much good flavor. Just a really nice meal.

I also got some Sweet Plantain Balls (Caclo) as an app. These things were amazing! I usually don’t like plantains, But these were very soft, coated in a tangy, umami powder, again a new thing for me.

Overall, I very much enjoyed this place. If you’re ever in Dumfries, VA, I would highly recommend you stop by, as this was the best food I had the whole time I was in town!

This place is AMAZING. Everyone was super kind. We dined in and spoke with the owner. Beautiful personality and sweet soul. You can taste it in her cooking. They gave us a bowl to wash our hands which I thought was very thoughtful. Will be coming back for the Ghana Cake.

Their service is absolutely terrible. Every time you call to place an order, they act rude and irritated for no reason. When you show up to get your food, the attitude gets even worse, and half the time they can’t even have it ready when they said they would.

I would never recommend this place to anyone they’re a complete joke.

This restaurant was such a joy to eat at. They gave me a lot for the money, I got the Jollof meal. And the cook/server was so warm and matronly. The food was fantastic of course, and presented very caringly. When I’m in the area I’ll definitely want to come again.

Quality, Cleanliness and Packaging outstanding…and the best of all homely & respectful top notch customer service. They have alot of varieties on their menu…very tasty but my go to is their waakye and the fufu & spinach soup with smoke turkey and fish. They seldom carry goat meat…I wish they do.
