Reviews
The entire experience was a masterclass in fine dining. Our server, Adis, provided exceptional, attentive, and friendly service throughout the night, making us feel truly welcome.
The food was simply exquisite. We started with the zucchini blossoms, a special appetizer that was absolutely delicious. For our main courses, my wife’s Maribar was cooked and prepared to perfection. I ordered the lamb chops, and I can say without hesitation they were the best I have ever had—incredibly flavorful and tender. Even the side dishes were memorable; the potato fingerlings, Brussels sprouts, and broccolini were all fantastic and complemented our entrees perfectly.
I cannot stress enough how wonderful our visit was. The combination of a stunning ambiance, impeccable service, and truly outstanding food made our anniversary dinner an unforgettable one. We will certainly be returning to the Saddle River Inn.
My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary and decided on Saddle River Inn to splurge in good food.
Amuse-Bouche: warm pumpkin soup- very salty
Appetizers:
Wagyu steak tartare- you can only taste the capers, hard to tell if there is any fresh beef there
Harvest salad- daily special. Ive had better salads at Just Salads
Meatball dish- I forgot the exact name. It was another daily special, and it was good but nothing out of the ordinary
Main dish:
Squash and pear ravioli- it was good but nothing to write home about
Aged sirloin- again it was good but at that price I expected something more. We paid extra for truffle butter and we barely tasted any truffle in it.
I’m a slow eater, but I didn’t expect to be asked if I was done every 10 min at a restaurant like this.
They did give us complementary cookies for our anniversary which was nice, but that too didnt taste much better than any store-bought cookie.
I really wanted to enjoy this dinner especially after making the reservation a month in advance but really didn’t taste anything special that would justify the price.
They have a strict dress code policy which pops up at the website but I did see a couple of guys with hoodies and sneakers.
We were celebrating my wife’s 40th birthday and were seated upstairs at a table directly beneath extremely harsh, bright spotlights. One of the lights was pointed directly into my face and was genuinely blinding, making it difficult to enjoy the meal or the evening. I asked our server if the light could be dimmed or adjusted. I was told the switch was behind another table and that they didn’t want to disturb those guests, but that the table was about to leave and the issue would be addressed shortly.
That never happened. The situation was ultimately ignored, and the lighting remained unchanged throughout the meal. What was most disappointing was the sense that one table’s experience was prioritized over another’s, which felt both unfair and out of character for a restaurant of this caliber.
While this may seem like a small detail, the lighting became a central distraction and significantly detracted from what should have been a memorable evening. We left feeling overlooked and disappointed, which was especially unfortunate given the occasion and our long-standing appreciation for this restaurant.
I share this feedback precisely because Saddle River Inn is typically exceptional, and part of what makes it special is the attention to detail. On a night like this, even small oversights can have an outsized impact. Overall, a very disappointing experience at what typically is one of the best.
The food itself is the true star. Every dish is beautifully presented, showcasing the chef’s creativity and attention to detail. Flavors are perfectly balanced, ingredients are clearly top quality, and each bite feels thoughtfully crafted.
What sets Saddle River Inn apart is not just the excellence of the cuisine, but the consistency and care behind every detail. It’s rare to find a restaurant that delivers both refinement and comfort in equal measure, but this place does exactly that.
If you’re looking for a truly memorable meal, Saddle River Inn is an absolute gem and easily one of the finest dining experiences in New Jersey.

Two years after the last review the dinner was every bit as good. Again. Different dishes but all terrific. Veal chop parmigiana was excellent as was the duck and shrimp.
Again, after a while, came back and dinner was flawless. Shrimp and duck were outstanding yet again. Desserts were also good. It’s not easy to get a reservation for a weekend dinner. You need to make them when they become available 30 days out.
