We ordered:
Chicken 65 – good flavor, it had a nice kick to it!
Chili Milli Gobhi – this was delicious, the batter had a great crisp to it but the cauliflower instead wasn’t overcooked or mushy
Goat Biryani – very good, they gave you a decent amount of meat and the rice had great flavor!
Lamb Chops – perfectly cooked with great char on the outside. This came with potatoes and asparagus with a side of sauce that tastes similar to butter chicken.
Overall – all the food was fresh and delicious. I will say that while the food was flavorful, the flavors were not as intense as how other Indian restaurants I’ve had. It’s more “muted”, which is not a bad thing but thought I’d point that out!
It’s crispy, savory, tangy, and sweet and scratches all the itches in my brain I didn’t even know I wanted this until I had it.
This time, we also ordered the Rutba kebab sampler- the chicken was very tender and cooked well, but the dish might be a bit on the bland side compared to the other dishes in the restaurant, but is a safe choice for those adverse to stronger flavors. I also ordered the Rechado Prawns, which were a little spicy and very herby, second favorite appetizer so far.
Last time, we also ordered curries, where you can adjust your heat preference. I ordered a grouper curry in American spicy and my boyfriend ordered one in Indian spicy and he was very happy that this is one of the few places that serve to a spice level that can match his tolerance (he loves spicy food). American spicy is probably equivalent to a jalepeno, and Indian spicy is closer to habanero. Both were wonderfully flavorful and we also had flaming naan and paratha as our bread side order. This time, we ordered the house curry with lamb meat with paneer bhatura, and I think the paneer bhatura is my favorite bread type they have.
Overall, a very cozy and clean environment, cute decorations, really good food, great service, and affordable prices. This is going on my top restaurants in Richmond list.
Rutba Indian Kitchen blew me away! The chilli milli gobi was bursting with flavor, the tikka masala was creamy perfection, and the garlic naan was soft with just the right char. Loved the mango lassi the taste was amazingly creamy and oh so refreshing. The fluffy basmati rice was flavorful.
The Mango pudding was smooth and the chunks of fruits that were subtly mixed in took it over the edge. The Tamarind Twist was tangy and tasty.
Warm service, beautiful presentation, and flavors that make you want to come back tomorrow! The food was a symphony of flavors that came together in a perfect matrimony.
From now on, we’re happy to wait for a table at Rutba. It’s truly an amazing place. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, the server was incredibly kind, and the owner took the time to answer all of our questions.
As for the food—this is the best Indian cuisine my wife and I have ever had. The portions were very generous, and the flavors were absolutely outstanding. Very well price as well.
We will definitely be returning many more times.
Thank you for bringing such a wonderful restaurant to Midlothian. We can’t wait for our next visit!
