I had an amazing experience at Ruta Oaxaca Mexican Cuisine, and it instantly became one of my favorite spots in the village. The atmosphere is fun, friendly, and genuinely welcoming — the kind of place where everyone feels comfortable walking in, whether you’re familiar with Mexican cuisine or trying it for the first time.
The staff and management are truly outstanding: warm, attentive, and passionate about what they do. They made great recommendations and encouraged us to try dishes we wouldn’t normally order — and I’m so glad we did. Every bite was incredible.
We ordered the chicken buñuelos, vegetable empanadas, shrimp costeño, churros rellenos, coffee flan, and margaritas, and everything was absolutely delicious. The flavors were bold yet approachable, beautifully presented, and clearly made with care and authenticity. The desserts alone are worth the visit.
We came here for a business meeting with colleagues, and it was the perfect setting — relaxed, comfortable, and professional at the same time. It’s an ideal spot for group dinners, date nights, or hosting out-of-town guests looking to experience the best of Patchogue dining.
Bonus points for easy parking in the back lot, which made the visit stress-free.
If you’re visiting Patchogue or exploring the local food scene, this restaurant is a must-visit. It’s an incredible example of how food brings people together — welcoming, flavorful, and memorable. Highly recommend!
The staff deserves major props. Literally everyone we interacted with was awesome. the host, the servers, even the people clearing tables. And it wasn’t that fake “restaurant nice.” It was real, natural, good‑energy people who actually seem happy to be there. You can feel it.
Now let’s talk food, because looks don’t matter if the food isn’t hitting. Thankfully, the food went way past our expectations. Everything tasted fresh and perfectly seasoned. The Ruta nachos completely blew us away, and I’m honestly convinced these folks don’t know how to make a bad dish. Every plate looked amazing, and somehow tasted even better.
The Sexy Oaxaca drink was a standout. It has smoked tequila, which I had never tried before, but now I’m hooked. The more you sip it, the better it gets. Dangerous in the best way.
And dessert… the churros with ice cream were unreal. Some of the best churros I’ve ever had, fresh, warm, crispy, and paired with ice cream that tasted legit premium. Perfect way to end the meal.
Overall, Ruta Oaxaca absolutely crushed it. Food, drinks, atmosphere, people all top tier. Can’t wait to go back.
1) Tortilla chips were fried in house but they were super thick and tasted stale. I saw a huge plastic tote of them in the kitchen. They should be fried closer to service.
2) Nachos were burnt. Maybe the easiest thing to make.
3) The chicken in the enchiladas tasted off. We sent them back and weren’t charged.
Generally the place was nice but the food was pretty bad.
While ordering I asked for corn on the side of the quesadilla. Staff rudely attempt to correct me that it ‘doesnt come with corn’. Fine. But I get it and lo and behold theres corn in the quesadilla. I simply requested to return the order as it was not what I ordered. Manager Jose yelled at me in an attempt to make me take a replacement. When I declined he became irate and practically threw the money at me.
As a woman I am appalled a man would treat me so disrespectfully over something so minor Especially a ‘manager’. I urge those who are reading to dine elsewhere. You can find better food in a soup kitchen.
Pictured below is their empanada which was not good either.
Today, we had the appetizers – Shrimp Flautas, Chicken Bunuelos and the Calamari. We also had the Lemonade (not sweet), the Crunchy Chirros and coffee. We really liked the selection we made. We usually make a meal out of appetizers. Next time, we will try other small dishes. The prices were as expected. In general, In general, we prefer this place over the other Mexican restaurants in the area.
