Rustika Cafe and Bakery was founded by Francis Reznick in 1994. From the first day, executive Pastry Chef Francis put her vision to work. Today, it’s renowned as one of Houston’s best cafes and bakeries, with Francis’ children (and even her grandkids) lending a hand at the family-owned shop, which now has locations and is shipping nationwide. At Rustika, their vision is simple: create fresh food along with decadent and beautiful desserts while never compromising on flavor or quality ingredients. Serving up favorite Jewish-Mexican fusion dishes like Chilaquiles, Migas, and Matzoh Ball soup along with the traditional Omelettes, Sandwiches, and Salads, which are available all day.

Cozy cafe serving Mexican-European entrees & custom, multi-tiered cakes for every occasion.

Service was slow. Food was meh. Ordered the breakfast tacos, the strawberries and cream pancakes from the specials menu, and a dish from the specials menu that I don’t recall the name and was not expecting when it arrived at the table. The tacos were okay. The pancakes were very dry and dense and did not come with enough syrup. The egg dish smothered in green sauce was bland and had way too much sauce. All of the dishes were overpriced for the lack of quality. We will not be returning. There are far too many good restaurants in Houston.

First was great and dessert really hit the spot. The coffee was delicious, the turtle coffee and the regular drip coffee. I ordered the chicken fajita bowl and it was awesome. A very generous portion and it tasted like my own mother made it. We also had some cookies and they were great. Had no issues with the service. You place your order up front and they bring you your food.

I ordered chilaquiles with eggs. You have a choice on how you want your eggs cooked. It also came with black beans. The meal itself was really good and the size big enough to share or to have some to go. Minus 1 star because I also ordered a latte that never came, I had to remind them of it and still then they forgot so I ended up asking for a refund once my meal was over, disappointing because I was actually looking forward to trying it since it looked like it would come in a glass mug rather than a to go cup like most places.

Visited on June 2022. The blend of cultures mixed perfectly into the dishes. The food was SO SO good. It filled us up, for sure! Delicious. The prices were worth it for such high quality. Will absolutely be coming back.

This place is definitely not what it used to be. Customer service is out the window and the amazing cakes I used to go for, are horrible. I ordered a cake for my daughters 18th birthday, and it was not good AT ALL. It was so gross and dense (you can tell in the pictures). I paid over $50 for this small cake (which I usually don’t have a problem with bc its always been worth it) just to cut everyone a piece and then try it with disappointment. Never again am I going to Rustika.

Best chicken salad sandwich in Houston. The sandwich was huge. The only thing is sandwiches come with pita chips and they don’t give you a lot of those. But I promise the sandwich will fill you up. The baked goods look amazing but I was too full to try any. Today I had one of the lunch specials – Shrimp Paella Pablano. It was so good, grilled shrimp over rice with a creamy pablano sauce. It came with an amazing salad all for $13.95. see pics.

First visit. I have to say, we loved our meal and the Rustika coffee was delicious. Will definitely be back. We didn’t try their desserts but bought the Cuvee Coffee Beans. Highly recommend. It’s small but delicious and eclectic menu.

Excellent food and bakery. Matzo ball soup was lemony and the matzo ball was a bit smushy. But the chicken salad sandwich was made on freshly baked bread and house, and head Citrus mixed into it which gave it a nice tank. The salad had almonds, hearts of palm, spring mix, Barry’s, and tomatoes. Very good. Soups are exceptionally good at this place but not if you’re trying to watch your diet as they can be quite Rich. Presentation was wonderful. See the pictures! Plus it is quiet.

I have ordered a birthday cake from this Rustika Cafe twice. The first time, they messed up the decor I had showed them in person how I wanted it done. The second time around for the second cake, they completely messed it up all the way from the decor to the flavor. I met with them twice in advance & specifically told them in person how I wanted the decor & the flavor. Even had a cake tasting prior to the birthday party & told them which one I wanted on both tiers. Was told they didn’t have the crushed peanuts I wanted inside the cake so I even made the long drive in taking them that. The day of the party comes around & my husband picks up the cake. In the middle of rushing, we see the cake until he gets to the house. The cake is pink around the name with pink ribbon around the bottom of the first tier & the letters were also in pink. Call them to ask about the huge mistake & they simply tell me they would have the chef call me the following day. Like that’s not enough for the day, I’m asked to go to the bakery with the cake so they can fix it. Once there, they showed me the form of the written order with all the details I had previously given them & it was clear to see the cake they had made was completely different. In the photo you can tell they did it in a rush & just placed everything on top of the pink that they had previously put on the cake. The inside of the cake tasted like peanut butter & as you can see both tiers were the same flavor. In person I had asked for the top tier to be chocolate & the bottom to be the other flavor I chose from the ones I tasted. The last photo with the name Caitlin is how I told them to make it with of course the several details I specifically told them what to change it to. This messed up cake from the outside in cost me close to 400. Both times for both cakes I chose them because I love how they make the flavor I chose for both cakes. For the same reason I disregarded the long distance as well. Having made huge mistakes in two special occasions of ours is more than plenty for me to never go back to them. I hope others can learn from my horrible experience with this bakery & use their money elsewhere. They gave me no refund whatsoever & the baker/manager wouldn’t even show her face when I asked to speak with her.
